Yes, They Were Teachers Too!

If you were a student in Mr. T’s classroom, would you have uttered a peep? Not me! I would have completed every homework assignment too. Yes, Mr. T was a teacher for a spell. J. K. Rowlings worked as an English-as-a-foreign-language teacher in Portugal. Sheryl Crow taught music at an elementary school in Fenton, Missouri, and Andy Griffith taught music at a high school in North Carolina. Actors Billy Crystal and Sylvester Stallone, musician Sting, and author Stephen King all spent time teaching kids. So did President Barack Obama. And, perhaps saving the best for last, Jon Hamm was a drama teacher at his alma mater, John Burroughs School in Ladue, Montana. He would definitely have had my full attention!

None of my former teachers—at least none that I know of—hold celebrity status in Hollywood. However, several of them rank celebrity status with me. Mrs. Felton, my third-grade teacher, made me want to become a teacher. Mr. Steen, my very first male teacher, was a favorite too. Science in his classroom was knock-your-socks-off stuff! That’s really something coming from a kid who, in sixth grade, had very little interest in science.

I’d love to hear which of your former teachers rank celebrity status with you! And, of course, if you’d like to share your choice of a celebrity teacher, that would be great too! 🙂

Smiles,

Diane

  1. My fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Allen, was a a beautiful person inside and out. She made everyone in her class feel special. We would do anything for her. She made everyday fun. If you’re still out there somewhere, Mrs. Allen from Englewood Elementary in Salem, Oregon, just know that many of us from your class still remember you with love in our hearts. We speak of you often! We were in your class in 1977-1978. You made a difference in our lives!

  2. Mrs. Richert and Mrs Regetz by 3rd and 2nd grade teachers made me want to follow in their footsteps. Just absolutely loved by me and all the kids who had contact with them.

  3. My first grade teacher (who was also my 4th grade teacher) inspired me to teach. She loved us so much and it really really showed. Mrs. Banks from Lakeview Elementary in San Antonio, Tx…..thank you! Thank you for loving me even when I talked too much. For teaching me with all of your heart. For giving me the confidence to speak up to others when they tried to bring me down. For showing me that one person can make a difference.

  4. My all time favorite teacher was my 6th grade teacher was Mr. Joe Capitano. He was fabulous! He was so understanding and compassionate. He was the best!
