Want It or Need It?

Life is pretty expensive right now. I’m fortunate in that I work from home and don’t pay a lot for gas but there’s still the cost of groceries and utilities. It makes me think about my needs versus my wants and how easy it is to blur the line between those two categories. I may think the face wash I just purchased was a need…but not really. And what about that cheese I bought recently? Sure, I need food, but do I really need that much cheese in my fridge?

It’s important to have children begin thinking about needs and wants so they can be responsible with money in the future. To help students distinguish between their own needs and wants, have each child decorate a copy of this body outline it so it resembles herself. Then have her use a black permanent marker to write needs within the lines of the body and wants around the outside of the figure.
