The Autumnal Equinox

Happy fall, y’all! Yep, yesterday was the first day of my favorite season. Cool mornings, cool evenings, beautiful fall colors—such a delight! Yesterday, several artists, musicians, and food vendors gathered in a nearby park to celebrate the autumnal equinox. So what exactly is the autumnal equinox? Here’s what I learned.leaf

Equinox comes from the Latin word for “equal night.” During the autumnal and vernal, or spring, equinoxes, the sun crosses the celestial equator (imagine a line in outer space directly above the terrestrial equator), meaning that day and night last about equally as long—12 hours each.

I love learning, don’t you? What cool facts have you recently learned? Please share!

Lovin’ fall!

  1. The children recently went on a big thing about crocodiles we learned
“cry crocodile tears” . It has its origins in the myth according to which reptiles weep while eating us crocodiles really do cry while eating, its due to physiological reasons . Their eyes can froth and bubble during the feeding. Air pushed through the sinuses mix with tears in the animal’s lacrimal (tear) glands and the whole content can be emptied into the eye; resulting the “fake” remorse for eating us turns out they are just happy
