I confess: my technological instincts stink. In fact, I think I’m missing the technogene! I suspected this all along, and now I’m certain of it!
Over the weekend I attended a digital scrapbooking party. I had a grand time! When the party wrapped, I zipped home. I was ready to give digital scrapbooking a whirl. Well, my whirl was very short-lived. Why, you wonder? Here’s the truth: when I’m using a computer, I can’t problem-solve my way out of a paper bag! For instance, I needed to download a new browser. This task was supposed to take just a few minutes. Hmmmm…I tried and retried and retried for over an hour and never did successfully download it.
I know I’m not a total digital dweeb. I email, shop, read the news, pay bills, network, and blog online. But trust me—when I get stuck, I’m stuck like a duck in the muck. I have no idea what to do next! Do you struggle with this? Or do you have advice for those of us who do?

Oh gosh I am the same way. I love the computer but can’t seem to learn to use the same as other people. I would love some advise on how others conquered this problem.
I married someone who is a computer whiz so I don’t have to be. He’s the go to guy for every electronic device you can think of. He says it came from taking things a part when he was a child. I’m not suggesting taking your computer apart or re-marry for computer support. (It worked out that way for me.) I would advise to not be afraid to press a button. At least you’ll learn what works and what doesn’t work that way. 🙂
One good resource to use is atomic learning. You access it through your local AEA. It is free for teachers and students.It has tutorials on many different programs and is very helpful when you get stuck. I use it with the older students I teach. Another good resource is the help menu on your computer. Most programs have support you can access by using the help menu on your computer.

I have a best friend that is my go to guy for this kind of thing. Where did I meet him- in a computer class that I passed thanks to him. Personally I think women were not born with tech DNA and men were. I have found that if you take a leap of faith and push that button not all is lost. My friend always seems to be able to restore my computer. The funny part is I can work my smart phone, my itouch and my nav system, but my computer scares the you know what out of me. I think it is because I am afraid that something will end up out there that I don’t want out there. My suggestion find a friend that is a computer wiz but has a weakness that is your strength and help each other.
