Teachers Helping Teachers

I’m back! And just like I promised, I’ve cooked up a little giveaway for Teacher Appreciation Week. I think it’s pretty cool! Trust me, my first giveaway proposal was to send three of us on a tropical getaway. (That would be you, a teaching colleague of yours, and little ol’ me. 🙂 ) As you can imagine, that proposal was received with thunderous laughter. But what the heck, I’m all about asking!

Honestly, this giveaway is just the frosting on the cake. The real purpose of this blog post is to offer a creative way for you to give a heartfelt shout-out to a teaching colleague. When you think back over the past school year, who was it that continually inspired you to do your best? Which teaching colleague listened to your concerns and your successes? Who was it that helped you better understand the way in which kids learn or added to your insight about the ins and outs of classroom management?

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I invite you to leave a comment appreciating one of your teaching colleagues! Who knows—maybe one of your colleagues will give you a shout-out too. And to show our appreciation, we’ll award one lucky commenter two $20 gift certificates for The Mailbox —that’s one for the winner to use and one for her to give to her Teacher of the Year. All commenters on this post through May 20 will be entered in the drawing.

Thank you for all you do! Happy commenting!

Diane

Congratulations to Bette Vaughan, winner of our drawing!

  1. I would love to give a huge shout to Mrs. B. She keeps me goiong and is so inspiring. She has a way of making me get excited about the classroom. Way to go Mrs. B

  2. I would like to give a shout-out to my 3d grade neighbor Ms. M. Lewis. Althought I teach 1st grade she used to teach 1st grade has been a big help with Technology and ideas to help our student become 21st century global learners

  3. I would like to give a shout out to Mrs. Call, my son’s chorus teacher. She has spent the year working on Footloose with her 6th, 7th, and 8th graders! Last night was the big night and it was awesome!!! It is my motivation to get our end of year programs done at preschool!!!!!!

  4. I would like to give a shout out to my 3rd grade teaching partner. Even though she had a rough start to her school year with her dad having a massive stroke she has been there helping get study guides typed up, weekly schedules, field trip notes, etc. She has been an inspiration to me this year to stay motivated even through the trying times! Thanks to my teaching partner Ms. Pratt!

  5. I would like to get a shout out to Mrs. Dickinson. She has taken kids that are below grade level in reading and brought them up to grade level. This is a huge achievement. She is an inspiration to me and my teaching! Because of her dedication she was nominated for teacher of the year for our school.

  6. I would like to give my 4th grade team a shout out. They are great to work with and we have fun together too. Thanks for a great school year!

  7. This is a shout-out in appreciation of my wonderful kindergarten team —we have so much fun together and love to plan fun days for our students that involve awesome activities covering many skills —we call these days “rotation days” because each class ‘rotates’ to every other room on a 30-minute schedule and all of the students get to learn and do a different activity in each room —they are all awesome, dedicated teachers who love making learning fun for the kids!!!

  8. I want to give a shout out to a first year teacher Mrs. S. She motivates her kids and she motivates me! She may be a first year teacher, but you would think she has been teaching for years! 🙂

  9. A retiring 2nd grade teacher, Kathy R, at our school has ALWAYS been a wonderful inspiration for the students, parents, and other teachers! Her kindness and many ways of connecting with even the most troubled learner, are an inspiration to me!

  10. I would like to give a shout out to the other VPK teacher. She has helped me throughout the year and we are now getting ready for graduation.

  11. I’m giving a big shout out to my former TEEM grant mentor, Melissa. Although she moved to Austin almost 3 years ago, she still keeps in touch and keeps me updated on the latest in early childhood education. She is my daily inspiration, and I thank her.

  12. It would have to be our reading specialist, Anne, who comes in and teaches writing to our class, as well as always has new books to recommend to us to use as read-alouds. The class looks forward to her coming in, and we look forward to it as she has lots of great lessons!

  13. I don’t usually blog, but I couldn’t resist this topic. After 12 years in the same school, I recently switched to a different building within my district. Mrs. Whiting and Mrs. Collier have welcomed me, not only to the building, but with open arms to the first grade team. They have gone out of their way to help me get acclimated. We share ideas, strategies, and materials on a daily basis. We’ve even shared a few live chickens! Here’s to you “Puddin'”!

  14. I would like to give a shout-out to Ms. Foster! She is one of my new team members. This year I was moved to 5th grade after spending my first 4 years of teaching in Kindergarten! What a jump. Ms. Foster has been there for me all year long! She has helped me adjust to the new age group, given me support with teaching writing, and given me support with the state assessment coming up. Her positive attitude has helped me make it through this rough transition! You’re the BEST!

  15. I would like to give a Marvelous May shout-out to Mrs. Betty, and Mrs. Sheila. Both ladies have retired from teaching but continue to work as our education specialist and director. Together they encourage you to never quit, even when the days seem endless. They teach, guide, and encourage. They offer great ideas, with pass experience in mind they suggest other great ideas. When you think all the solutions is gone, together they come in as a team and sprinkle that magic dust. Some days are a challenge with preschoolers but they sure make it a little easier with their magic dust ideas !!!!!

  16. I would like to give a shout-out to my kindergarten team. We have had a rough year that went speeding by, but we survived. There were a lot of times when we felt so unappreciated, but we knew we could count on each other to get us through. I really appreciate all of you. Go KATS!

  17. I would like to say how much I appreciate the guidance and support I have received from our principal. She was new this year and did all she could to make our year an easy transition. In my book SHE ROCKS! Thank-you Mrs. Alligood.

  18. A HUGE shout-out to my teaching colleague and dear friend, Kim. She was my teaching assistant for 2 years, and after having her second child, returned to our school as a teacher. She is an amazing woman, and is a constant source of encouragement to me. She is my warm smile every morning, a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and a friend to chat and laugh with. My husband and I moved recently, and I miss her greatly! Thanks, Kim – YOU ARE AWESOME!

  19. I just started working at BISD CC in March. I am a substitute but will be hired on full time in the fall (yay!) It is hard to pick one person because EVERYONE has been nice and helpful and welcoming. I think I will give my shout out to Ms. Brenda. She was my preschooler’s first teacher and she made Tabby feel totally welcome and secure! Thank you Ms. Brenda!

  20. Thanks so much to all the kindergarten teachers at my school for helping me out this year. You ladies are awesome!

  21. I would like to thank Ms. Cheterra H. for all her help and knowledge about the many different resources that we as family child care providers can have access too. Sometimes we are over looked for our contributions that we give to the different communities that we serve. Thanks again Cheterra for all your hard work and information. You are a blessing to me and so many other family child care providers.

  22. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to Stephani Gentry. This was my first year teaching, and she guided me through the trenches like a champ. Not to mention she really knows her way around all the SPED paperwork! Without her, I just might have walked out of my classroom. Ok, maybe nothing that drastic, but she is AWESOME!

  23. I would like to thank Mrs. V for all of your help and support. When I am having a rough moment in the classroom, I know I can count on you to step in and help out. When I am in need of a resource, I know all I need to do is visit your classroom. Thank you for all of the great ideas you have shared and all of the times you have given me support in one way or another. You are the best!

  24. Thanks to my favorite co-teacher Pat Hodges Able. She is always supportive both professionally and personally. She is also Ethel to my Lucy.

  25. I left my comment on the Bingo blog by mistake. So, let me say again: I have the BEST team of teachers on my team!

  26. This year I had to unexpectedly switch from kindergarten to first grade at my school due to enrollment. This is my only my second year of teaching in the County. I was overwhelmed. Luckily, I have 2 of the best team mates in the world. Mrs. Winter and Ms. Trabert have given me so much help and support. I gained confidence and 2 new friends. Thanks!

  27. I am very grateful for each of my colleagues on our kindergarten team. They all have helped me in the three years I have been on their team. One that especially stands out is Mrs. Whoolery. She is ALWAYS willing to lend a hand, to share ideas, to share a smile with, to laugh with, to ask me if I want to have lunch with her and other colleagues when we go occasionally go off-site. She will always be there when I need a favor or need some advice. She is a wonderful colleague who is also a great friend!

  28. My helper is my whole team. We have seven people who teach grade 4. We have some older, some younger and some MEN! We get along well and trade ideas. We team plan once a week and share what we are doing. If we like another’s ideas, we copy. If not, we don’t worry about it. Works out well!

  29. I have a wonderful team teacher. Darcie has helped me so much over the past few months. I took over this job in December and she has been right there for me all the time. Thank you Darcie for all of your support.

  30. I would not have any sanity left this year if it weren’t for Rae, my grade-level special education teacher. I arrived at my current school from a different state, teaching a new-to-me grade, and she helped me navigate the jargon and acronyms of new SPED guidelines, even while they were changing before our eyes. She was one of the first people to stick her head in the door and welcome me to the school, and listened and offered advice when I felt like a rat stuck in a maze. Budget cuts may not allow us to work together next year, but I’ll always be thankful for you, Rae.

  31. I just started as a SPED teacher in April and have had amazing support from the RTI, 2nd and 3rd grade teachers. Thank you for making my transition easy!
