Teacher Workshops

Summertime for teachers usually includes at least one workshop, right? My goal as a teacher was to get district-mandated workshops taken care of soon after school was out, if possible. Then I’d simply plan around any workshop I chose to attend.

What kinds of workshops are you taking this summer? Do you have a summer workshop strategy?

Happily,

Diane

PS: What about online summer workshops? Are these a popular teacher choice?

  1. I use a variety of resources to get my service hours updated,a correspondence course,an all-day seminar, and also a local company that offers courses. I use these to get to topics that interest me and that I would like to become more proficent in, areas that my kids may struggle with.

  2. I am taking 2 webinars this summer on early childhood curriculum. I love webinars because of the location! It is often a hassle driving driving 20 miles or more to a location fighting traffic and the cost for workshops held at hotels is often quite high and schools no longer seem to have the money for professional development.

  3. So far this summer I have taken 8 workshops. Six of them were online modules that took me about 10 hours for each one. The two face to face workshops were for common core math and ELA. I have learned more about ESE, our evaluation system, the common core, and much, much more! I am always excited to learn new things. I also want to take a class on CHAMPs classroom management. It seems like a great system!

  4. I am taking two workshops this summer. One is on the Danielson Framework which has become the scafffold for our teacher evaluation and one on iready which we use as an assessment tool for our children esp those in the Basic Skills Program

  5. I’m taking a Marzano workshop the week before I go back to school. My district offers many video classes and I plan on taking a few of them.

  6. I am currently doing a webinar on building student motivation. I just started it and I hope I learn something new and something I can use in my classroom.

  7. Kudos to all you hard working people! My district has offered no workshops so far ( we just got out) & I’ve chosen to spend no money if my own. I’m spending quality time with my 5 year old instead… First time I’ve had a totally free summer!

  8. I do 4 of my training hours at workshops in August. Then they are scheduled for Oct and March to fulfill the training hours. I am taking a children’s lit class this summer too. I am looking forward to learning more cool things to use in my classroom

  9. I’m going to Vegas for the DI conference. I went last year but had to cut it short due to fires in my area.

  10. I just got back from a 3-day early childhood conference in San Antonio. It was awesome!!!! 🙂

The only reason I was able to attend the conference is because there was no fee, and I was able to stay at my parents’ place while in San Antonio. My school district offers no workshops/trainings for pre-k teachers, and they refuse to pay for us to go anywhere.

In the past, I have paid out of my own pocket to go to trainings during the summer. This year, I got lucky with being able to attend & save money. 😉
