Sweet Summertime

It happens today, June 20, 2012, at 7:09 PM Eastern Daylight Time—summer officially begins for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere!

As a child, I thought summertime was pure magic. Much of my time was spent outdoors doing the kinds of things that would probably bring tears of boredom to today’s youth. I was also one of those kids who could easily get wrapped up in jigsaw puzzle, a craft or baking project, or any number of Nancy Drew mysteries.

What do you remember about your childhood summers? Please share!

Happily,
Diane

  1. I was outside all the time. Every Tuesday and Thursday I went to day camp where I learned to swim, do crafts and play games. What fun.

  2. I had my favorite reading spots and loved laying around outside in them reading. We lived about a 10 minute walk from the public library and sometimes I was there twice in one day to refresh my reading pile!

  3. I remember swimming lessons and tennis lessons during the summer in Missouri. Figure skating lessons in the winter.

Now that I’m down in South Texas, I live in a perpetual summer. I really do miss the seasons.

  4. We were walking distance to the pool, the library, the tennis courts(I did not play) and 2 parks, but my favorite place to be was in my backyard laying on a blanket reading or resting my eyes.

  5. I was always at my grandparents’ house playing with my brothers and cousins. We would help my grandparents with their to do lists. My grandpa was always in his garden and I was right there beside him.

  6. We lived in the country on a big farm. (Cows, pigs, chickens, garden) We were outside all the time. I, too, am a big fan of Nancy Drew. I would receive a book each month in the mail. I couldn’t wait for the book to arrive! I also would get Weekly Reader.

  7. It is my birthday! So summer has always held a special place in my heart! I am still celebrating my birthday with my parents! They are 88 and 92! I am very lucky!
