Sweet Friday!

In my book, every Friday is sweet, but this Friday tops them all! Did you know it’s National Doughnut Day? Yes sirree! I mean, could there be a better pairing? A Friday and day you must eat doughnuts or suffer being pegged as a party pooper.

I did gasp when I pulled my prized pastry from its bag. Clearly I don’t buy doughnuts enough! I think my bookbag fell on it. But that didn’t matter one bit. I enjoyed every sweet morsel of my tasty treat.

Happy Doughnut Day to you! Remember, it lasts all day long! I sure hope there isn’t a National Carrot Day…

Smiles!
Diane

  1. Make any day a doughnut day and take your class on a field trip to a doughnut shop then go back to school and make your own. Separate the pieces from a can/tube of refrigerated biscuits. Give each child one so they can push their thumbs through the center and make the hole. Place in an electric skillet with hot oil and turn with a spoon. Give each child a double paper lunch bag with his choice of cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar in the bottom. Add colored sprinkles for a special holiday. Drain donuts on a large paper bag, drop into the lunch bags and let the kids shake them around to coat with topping. Some of the skills that can be reinforced during this activity are circle (biscuit, doughnut, and paper plate), square (napkin), rectangle (lunch bag), recognizing and writing the letter d remembering that it begins with a doughnut shape and says /d/ like the beginning of doughnut.
