Super Cereal!

Wednesday, March 7 is National Cereal Day. Why should we celebrate this flakey breakfast food? Because it’s the best edible manipulative ever. Cereal is a fun, and reasonably nutritious, way to teach counting, adding sets, and a variety of other skills. It’s not playing with your food–it’s learning with your food. 🙂 Check out these awesome activities that use cereal!

This rainbow cereal match is perfect for March. Get the rainbow pattern here.

This place value practice uses O-shaped cereal, marshmallows, and toothpicks!

The actual cereal isn’t needed for this awesome math center–just the cereal boxes!

  1. I love these cereal ideas. My favorite activity is using Lucky Charms to make a graph of how many different marshmello shapes are in a box of cereal. The children love the fact they get to there math acitivity.
