Snap!

snap /snap/ verb To break or cause to break suddenly and completely; typically with a sharp crackling sound

Thanksgiving, turkey, wishbone, wish, pull, snap! I’m a fool for fun and tradition, and the snapping of the wishbone is one of my Thanksgiving Day favorites. This predessert tradition for my family begins with everyone’s name being put into a hat (pot, whatever). Two names are drawn, declarations of “heads” and “tails” are made, and a coin is tossed. The winner of the coin toss draws a name from the hat, declarations of “heads” and “tails” are made again, and the coin is tossed again. And so it goes. The person whose name is drawn last and the winner of the final coin toss become the wish makers. These two hold the wishbone between them; make their wishes; and (drumroll here), on a count of three, snap the bone. Silly? Yes! Fun? Most definitely!

Enjoy the holiday! I’d love to hear about a favorite turkey day tradition of yours!

Sincerely thankful for YOU!
Diane

  1. Our family tradition is football. After we eat all the turkey and trimmings we all watch football. Nothing like screaming together as a family at the tv.
    Happy Thanksgiving to all.
