School Visit

Yesterday morning, several of us from The Mailbox visited a local elementary school for a couple of hours. Kids are such a treat! In a nutshell, I saw a whole lot of enthusiastic teaching and learning taking place. Oh, and it was Pajama Day! Last school year, we visited a different school on PJ Day too. What a coincidence!

I wish I could visit each of your classrooms. If I could visit your classroom, what’s one activity you’d like for me to see?

Teachers are one in a million!

  1. Living in the suburbs of Detroit the Auto Show in Detroit every January is a huge deal. I let Parents know in November we will have a Auto Show at Willow Creek. Each Child and their Parents make a car that their Child can sit in. The week of the Auto Show they bring in their car. We do a drive in movie for the kids complete with popcorn. The last half hour of class the Parents return and each Child shows their car and we give them medals.

It has become quite a contest the last 2 years. One Dad build a huge pink wood car, others use old license plates. Its quite a hoot and the kids love it. The Dads really compete over this.
Diane if you ever in the area in January come visit and be the judge.

  2. If you stopped by our preschool, I would hope that we would be having “Math Tub Time”. It’s a program I put together several years ago, and the children really do amazing things with it! We just collected a variety of manipulatives and put them in plastic tubs. It’s so simple, but it has become a very special part of our week. You’d see counting, estimating, sorting, grouping, graphing, patterning, comparing, copying and learning from others. They think they’re playing, but there’s so much math learning going on!
