Going outdoors? Staying indoors? How will your students spend their recess today?

Curious as ever!

  1. We have been stuck indoors way too much – it has either been raining or way too cold or snow on the playground – we don’t have long to be outside as we are only a 1/2 day program, but I hate being inside so much. We have a great climber and we have other large motor games that we switch out for the kids but nothing beats a breath of fresh air and the sun on your face!!! When things get this bad I suit them up and we go for a walk around the block!!!! angie

  2. most likely inside recess (unfortunatly). It is the first nice snow this year and its too cold for the kids to get to go outside and play in it.

When we do have inside recess they play in the PE room (which is too small for all the classes… so no running around games)

  3. aw i feel bad for some of you sometimes I wish it snowed here then other times not… but its foggy in the moring and sun i out in the afternoon so we do go outside in afternoon most start of with their coat but some end up taking it off but they ove to run and play…

  4. During recess since here in chicago we have very cold weather I set up a gym in circle time area, such as hula hop contest, balance table, jumping jack contest, and more by the time they go to sleep they are very tired. tried it is very cool.

  5. We did get out for a little while this morning, which was very refresshing. Being a MN transplant to MD I was use to going out in (almost) any kind of snowy/cold weather growing up. I really want these kids to enjoy the great outdoors what ever the weather.

  6. I take my K’s out every day we can. As long as the temp. is 20 or above. We need that fresh air and exercise. I think I need the break as much as they do.

  7. Here in Wisconsin, the playground is filled with giant, snowbanks from all the plowing. My students call them “snow mountains.” They enjoy bundling up in their winter gear to go play on the “snow mountains.” They are adorable when they walk in from recess covered in snow.

  8. We had a tornado watch today and it rained all day. We definitely stayed inside. I would love some fun recess ideas from some Kindergarten teachers. What is fun for them, easy for you and gives them a chance to move?

  9. Being in Minnesota, I am really getting a kick out of these replies! Mine will probably mortify most of you as we go out everyday unless it is rainy hard or below negative 15. It’s honestly not that bad and the kids need the fresh air and energy release.

  10. We still will go out if it is below zero and there is no wind. If it is 0 and windy we stay in and use the gym. They bring puzzles, games and play with the basketballs to the gym.

  11. My kids go outside for morning and noon recess, then play inside for afternoon recess. The boys love to play with gears and building toys; the girls sit in the toy boat and visit as they wear dress-up clothes and have a tea party. I have a fascinating group of students this year.
