Nutty Over Fall

Are you happy fall is here? I am! Autumn just may be my favorite season of the year! With awesome weather, beautiful colors, fun holidays, football, and tailgating, what’s not to like? Here’s a catchy tune to add to your fall activities. I’d love to hear what you have planned for this season!

Happily,
Diane

Autumn Is Here
(sung to the tune of “The Itsy-Bitsy Spider”)

Autumn is here right now.
The leaves are falling down.
They float from the trees.
They’re yellow, red, and brown.
We see orange pumpkins
Glowing in the sun.
When the season’s fall,
It is fun for everyone!

  1. Wow I love fall too. We have been having so much fun. Just today I brought in 2 pumpkins one smooth and one bumpy and we did comparsions. Then graphed with them.
Last week I cut paper rakes out and drew lines on them to have the kids practice cutting.
We also run around around on the playground catching colored leaves. I have the kids catch 2 red, 1 yellow, 4 orange etc.
What I love most though is our grounds are full of trees so when the leaves have really fallen we make a big pile and jump. Yes I jump in too. Just like the kids. Makes great pictures as well.

  2. Our high school shares our grounds, so we make paper football players and I put the kids head photos in the paper helmets and decorate the hallway bulletin board for our homecoming week.
We read pumpkin books and learn about plant growth. We cut open a pumpkin, count seeds, compare seeds from 2 different sizes pumpkins, make a seed envelope to save pumpkin seeds to plant in the spring, roast and eat pumpkin seeds.
We learn about squirrels and hibernation as we watch the critters scamper about the campus. I read Lois Ehlert’s Leaf Man. Then we do leaf rubbings. I love the photos of kids on a paper leaf that I recently saw on the Mailbox website; I’m doing a hallway bulletin board with those photos this year.

  3. I love Autumn! So far we worked on collecting leaves. I found an article in the newpaper last year that has the list of diffrent leaves. So we went for a walk and collected leaves. We made a tree using our hands and arm, decorated it. Color a large leave with all the colors of fall.
During the week we went to the park and just lay on mats and looked up at diffrent trees and watched the leaves fall. The preschoolers ages 2 and 3 loved it. This week we will be tracing the leaves using crayons, leaves of diffrent sizes and shapes and trace them.
Thank you for asking, enjoy the week.
    Elizabeth
