No Worries—We’ve Got the First Day Covered With Contests, Freebies, and More!

There are so many emotions on the first day of school—nervousness, excitement, an eagerness to put the best foot forward. And then there are your students’ concerns too!****************

Don’t stress! We’ve got resources that will let both your students and you score a home run on the first day! Submit a comment to the blog by 11:59 pm EDT Wednesday, August 13, 2014, to tell me which of the items below are your favorites. One lucky teacher will win Baseball Opposites and Baseball Animals. These official Major League Baseball publications introduce children to early concepts through the world of baseball. (Update: Congratulations to Fran, who is the winner of the books!)

So what kind of class will you have? Be ready for them all!
Your students are worried. Let them know they’re not alone with Chu’s First Day of School. This little Panda with a big sneeze has many worries! Will his classmates be nice? Will they like him? What happens at school anyway? This book is all about the universal experience of starting school. Plus here’s something to calm your worries: click here to download free Common Core–aligned activities to support the reading!

Your students are sharp. Tell them about the X-ACTO Sharpen Your Skills scholarship! X-ACTO is giving away $10,000 scholarships to each of three students and $1,000 prizes to five teachers. Plus, for each of the first 100,000 entries, X-ACTO will donate one school supply product to the Kids in Need Foundation. Click here now to enter!

Your students are adorable. Parents can give your school a chance to win a $2,000 donation in the Thomas Built Buses annual photo contest. Parents “like” the Thomas Built facebook page and enter a photo that best represents the fun, excitement, and nostalgia of riding a school bus by September 15. Voting runs through October 1. Five winners will be selected from the photos that receive the top 50 votes. Click here to learn more!

Your students are pouting. In The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School, that pouty fish is nervous. But his teacher calms his pouts and gives him the confidence to learn. There’s something for you too: get free teacher resources, a downloadable school activity kit, Pout-Pout Fish videos, and more! Click here!

  1. I like the free teacher resources for the Pout-Pout Fish. The original story is always a favorite and our first theme is school. This fits perfectly!
