May Lesson Plans

May is almost here! How does this make you feel? Are you elated that the school year is winding down, slightly panicked because there are so few days left in school, or perhaps a little bit of both? What’s at the top of your teaching plans for the month of May?

Cheerfully,
Diane

PS: Remember that Saturday, April 30, is the last day to be entered in our Hot off the Press Giveaway! You won’t want to miss out on this one. It’s a doozy! 🙂

  1. These look like real time savers. I spend a lot of time creating patterns and games to incorporate letters and numbers. These resources could be adapted across a wide range of concepts and abilities! are there more being planned?

  2. oops! I remembered to preview the kits for the contest but forgot about reflecting on lesson plans! I have Cinco de Mayo planned for next week. It will be a great time to highlight the ESL students in my class and give the others a chance to experience a different cultures. I also want to invite that family who are recent arrivals in order to give them another positive school experience for their child. We have a red, white and blue week planned so that we can honor our families who have a military connection.
…and, yes, I am feeling excited that the end of the year is so soon. …and, YES!, I am feeling frazzled and overwhelmed. But I have been teaching for 10 years, and I recognize that this is a common feeling for this time of year. I will just do what I can do one day at a time, appreciate the growth that I have seen in the children, be thankful for the assistance I get from my coworkers and families and look forward to a summer to recuperate before we start all over again in the fall!

  3. I can’t wait for the prek theme kits they look wonderful.
For the month of May we will being learning caterpillars and butterflies, and the last few weeks we spend it on vacation, we go to Grandmas farm, zoo and camping. Its loads of fun for the end of the year.
I would love to see seasonal theme kits like Christmas. It would be great to have ready to go things so we teachers are not so rushed over the holidays.

  4. May – not already! Must start planning our graduation ceremony! Also have a field trip to the Puyallup Fair School – thank you, Puyallup Fair, for offering this school. I’ve taken 6 classes to the fair, kindergarten and 2nd grade, and they do a fantastic teaching time!

  5. I cannot believe the year is almost to the end. It went by so fast!

We will be studying Zoo Animals for 2 weeks followed by 2 weeks of Ocean Life. Setting up the “Zany Zoo Animal Clinic” in my pretend & learn center takes a lot of work, but setting up for Ocean Life is probably the most difficult. It’s tough to carry in a swimming pool & fill it with sand to build a “beach” in the room. However, when I see how much the kids enjoy it & how much they learn, it’s all worth it. 🙂

  6. I put on a play with my first graders. It’s called “Over the Bridge-the Musical”. Cute play. Enough parts for everyone…if I’m creative. Perfect thing to do to keep them busy the last weeks of school!!

  7. I wish I could say that I’m looking forward to the summer break, but we have classes year-round. May brings a different kind of busy-ness that involves getting ready for our big graduation event at the end of the month, finishing report cards, scrapbooks, field trips, planning for summer curriculum, training, and a moment of reflection to remember how far each child has come!
Oh to be able to take a moment to breathe!
