Good scissors are a key element in one of Liz Lilly’s favorite projects—having her students create decoupaged plates featuring their artwork. “It’s vital to have a good pair of scissors so there’s no tearing of the paper and the edges have a clean cut,” Liz says.

As a Westcott Warriors winner, Liz received a prize pack with a pair of Westcott adult scissors and six pairs of Westcott kids scissors. Liz teaches first grade at Horizon Elementary in Port Orange, Florida.

“When I found out I was a Westcott Warriors winner, I was thrilled,” Liz says. “The teacher scissors are the best. They fit comfortably in your hand, which is nice when you are cutting laminated center activities. The students were equally excited to try out their new tools.” In the photo above, Liz is getting ready for the upcoming school year by cutting out ten-frame cards.

Westcott offers lots of goodies for teachers like Liz. Visit the Westcott site for free language arts, math, science and social studies activities, and “Like” the Westcott Teacher page on Facebook to find out about special offers and exciting products.

  1. I LOVE Westcott scissors!! They make cutting easy for students and the adult scissors are awesome! I got a pair in the mail last year and they are my favorite scissors now! =)

  2. I have helped out in the classroom several times on cutting projects and know the importance of good pair of scissors. The projects come out so much better when the scissors are sharp. I look forward to helping in Mrs. Lilly’s classroom this year.

  3. I love Westscott scissors too and would love to win another pair. I like to make Halloween brooms and Fall rakes. I precut a triangle shape for the broom on yellow paper and add precut lines and give the kids Westscott scissors to cut the lines of the broom. Then attach a precut handle.

My rakes are a square shape with precut lines again the children cut the lines and then add a handle.

They actually love this simple cutting practice.

  4. I love Westcott scissors and would love to win some beautiful scissors for my little kindergarten students to use for our class projects.

  5. I would like to share the scissors with stude to that I work with. they are great for art projects during crafts.

  6. Congratulations to Liz-Westcott Warrior Winner! Awesome idea to try out in the classroom. I would love a pair of Westcott scissors! I do several projects with photos of my students in class from bulletin board displays, door decorating contests, to individual, year long scrapbooks to the family as end of the year gifts. A really good pair of scissors would help with making sure there were crisp edges and good clean cuts. Thanks for the opportunity and good luck to Mrs. Lilly for the upcoming year.

  7. You can never have enough good scissors around. I bought a handful for the classroom at a dollar store, nearly three months later I had to buy another handful, they all broke.

  8. I just found out that I will be going from 3rd grade to Kindergarten this Sept.,so these scissors will be even more valuable as I make more student centered activities and classroom decorations!

  9. Westcott scissors are the BEST!!!! I will not purchase anything else and I have most of my co-workers using them as well.

  10. I model for my students how to cut out a picture on the lines, then I observe my kindergartners as they cut pictures from magazines during the first week of school so I can gain knowledge about individual small muscle control, awareness of lines, neatness, and past experience with scissors. High quality Westcott scissors increase their rate of success and their enjoyment of the project.

  11. Westcott scissors are the best! I love them for cutting out items for bulletin boards. The scissors are so sharp. I have never had a problem with Westcott scissors. I wish more students had them too!

  12. Our first art project of the year is a checkerboard apple weave. The students cut squares from strips of green construction paper that I have precut for them. They then start designing their checkerboard on a red apple that is about the size of a whole sheet of construction paper. We top it off with a stem and a rafia bow on top. Lots of cutting is required for this fun and cute project! Thank you for the opportunity to win a pair of Westcott scissors.

  13. Westcott Scissors are great! I like using them when cutting out small objects because they work so well!

  14. My favorite project involving scissors is creating a back to school A-Z book using magazines to cut out pictures and words that present or describe them (the students)with the letters of the alphabet. Thanks for this opportunity to win these scissors, which I love!

  15. I like to have the children cut out foods from magazines and then sort them by color, food type, etc. there are many ways to sort foods. Having good scissors helps with their success in cutting.

  16. Cutting snowflakes from coffee filters is the best. First dip the filters in primary colored food coloring water and let dry. Makes the perfect blend of magical secondary colors surrounded by the primaries.
