Lunch in the teachers’ dining room at my school was an unpredictable affair. I never knew whether I’d find my fellow teachers talking excitedly about everything or sitting silently in the doldrums of discontent.
Of course, there was the food. Nothing much had changed since we were the ones sitting in the cafeteria with our friends, comparing notes, and trading sandwiches. While we as adults now shied away from trading sandwiches, we were more united than ever in our quest for just the right lunch to gobble down in the too-short lunch break before heading off to an afternoon of teaching.
Sandwich? Soup? Leftovers? Teacher’s lunch from the cafeteria? Ramen noodles for the 3,827th time?
