Kindergarten Is Too…Easy?

I just read about a recent study that says kindergarten is too easy. I took a moment to rub my eyes and then looked at the study again. Kindergarten back in days of yore used to involve loads of play, opportunities to work on social skills and motor skills, and basics on letters and numbers. When I taught kindergarten several years back, we were already giving our little ones timed addition tests. How is it possible that it’s too easy when kindergarten is now what first grade used to be?

I’ll be honest; I just don’t think that’s what’s best for five and six year olds, but I’m aware that’s my subjective opinion. I’m not a researcher. I’m just afraid that an increase in academic content will result in more worksheets and time at a desk.

Take a look at the study. What do you think?
