Just "Fur" Fun!

Are you ready to smile? I hope so! You see, along with it being Teacher Appreciation Week (hooray, hooray!), it’s also National Pet Week (May 3–9). How cool is that? I have a hunch that many teachers have pets. Is my hunch based on scientific evidence? Heck no! My hunch is based on what I know to be true about teachers. They are compassionate. They are patient. And they are nurturers.

Here at The Mailbox®, our pets are a popular topic of conversation. It’s no secret that we love our pets and love to talk about them. So when I invited my colleagues (many of whom are former teachers) to share photos of their family pets for this blog, the response was “pet-acular”! Enjoy the photos—they are sure to make you smile! And just “fur” fun, talk to us about your pets. We’re all ears!

  1. Love the pics! My husband and I don’t have human children, we have furry four legged kids! 2 cats and 3 dogs later I had to stop him from adopting more! Our animals are our babies, and we can’t get enough. We often get made fun of for our “needy” animals, one cat is diabetic and gets insulin injections twice a day, a dog with pancreatitis, and another that has severe separation anxiety. Our home is a charity case, but we couldn’t imagine life any other way! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Love the pictures! My Dad is a veterinarian so you know I love my pets! We have a dog named Autumn who came to us through unusual circumstances. My son found her in a dumpster at a local 7-11 store. We think that she was only about 5 weeks old. Poor baby! I can’t believe that someone would be so cruel!

Now for our unusual pets — because with 4 sons you know I have experienced the unusual! At this particular time, we have a rabbit, a bearded dragon, 2 uromastyx, 2 silcata tortoises, 2 red-eared sliders. 1 Florida snapping turtle, 1 mud turtle, and a huge frog (can’t remember what kind he is right now. 🙂

    We love them all!!

I could type a whole lot more about my pets but I will stop for now. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear about everyone else’s pets!

  3. I love the pictures of the pets. Pets are so important and I have 3 class pets in my classroom (hermit crab, hamster, guinea pig). The children sign up to take them home for the weekend. I have a dog named Bandit at home. I also work as a volunteer for an animal rescue on the weekends. Pets add so much to our lives and I think people who have the love to work with children usually have the love for animals as well.

  4. Great pics and stories! We are animal lovers here; have had miniature ponies and goats in the past, hoping to bring goats back soon. We have an over abundance of dogs, living in the country with no animal control. They all have names though: Sweetheart, Callie, Panther, George, Rosebud, Skye and Fawn. Also have 2 cats: Peanut and Smokey. Jamie Jo, you and your husband have wonderfully kind hearts.
