Welcome to Upper Grades Exchange, a new blog for teachers of grades 4 and up from The Mailbox®, the #1 idea magazine for teachers. I invite you to consider this your forum just as much as it is ours. That’s why we picked the name “exchange.” The Mailbox started as a magazine where teachers could exchange their great ideas for managing classrooms, producing unique and creative lessons, and enhancing the curriculum.
The best educators share their ideas, their successes, and their mistakes with colleagues, both new and seasoned. In my first months as a middle school language arts teacher, I was a sponge, soaking up every last morsel of advice and insight I could from my fellow teachers. Along the way I contributed my own ideas. And stories of my own failures.
That’s what I want to see happen with Upper Grades Exchange. Consider this an electronic break room where everyone convenes to laugh, vent, and encourage fellow teachers enjoying the challenge of grades 4 and up.

This is fantastic. I have loved Mailbox for years, and Companion, too. This year I just started teaching grades 6 and 7 after 10+ years of teaching Kindergarten. I need all the ideas, advice and help I can get. Thank you so much!
