January Perks

I’m loaded with perks on this fabulous Monday: one perk for you and one perk for me! Your perk is that, when you leave a comment on this blog—all you need to do is answer one question—your name will be entered in a drawing for a one-of-a-kind giveaway from The Mailbox. I can’t divulge what the giveaway is; however, I can hint that it includes not one but two prizes!

Here’s the question:

In the year 2012, what classroom-related topics would you like me to investigate on
the The Mailbox Blog?

What’s my perk? I get to hear from you!

Smiles,
Diane

PS To be entered in the drawing, please comment before midnight on Monday, January 16.

Congratulations to Waynetta! She’s the winner of our drawing.

  1. I would like activities on the food groups, following directions, 5 senses, space, the olympics, story retelling/comprehension, and blending words. 🙂

  2. Love the dinosaur craft idea from a previous poster. Anything about space-especially crafts that make a great keepsake, making grammar instruction easy and memorable, and patriotic songs for young’ins with no American background to relate them to, would be welcome here!

  3. The food groups would really help especially with the change to the non pyramid groups now. Story retelling/comprehension – How to get it all together – assessment – It seems I can get a few things going and then other things fall behind – I guess organization — how do others assess their kids – I try to play the same game with all the kids to see what they know, but always looking for new ideas! thanks!

  4. I agree with Angie ways to get things organized and how to assess. I would also like ideas on following 3 and 4 step directions.

  5. I would love ideas about students accepting other students who may be disbaled/special needs & overall instilling the concept of helping & caring for others.

  6. I would love some new ideas for celebrating Mother’s Day……..the things I have found online aren’t that original! Thanks! Kelly

  7. I would love to see more themed activity pages that are labeled for common core standards for Kindergarten. My students love to cut and paste and I use The Mailbox as well as past Teacher’s Helper’s, but with a four your old of my own, it is hard to find new things on line that are worthy of grading, keeping with common core with very little time to research. Thanks for the perk!!

  8. Ideas about covering the Core Curriculum in Reading, National Standards in Math and Science — and a better organization of the Social Studies Standards in Kindergarten

  9. I would like more ideas for outdoor activities in the winter. It’s hard to keep them busy outside in the winter and it takes so long to get them bundled up! The ages that I have are mostly 2 and 3 year olds.

  10. Children love to play on the computer but I would like it to be more integrated into my schedule. I would love to learn how to make a computer game become part of the lesson plan in a real way. So, how can I make “playing on the computer” part of my lesson plan? I am probably not explaining this well…

  11. It’s already been mentioned, but organizing is always a challenge that sometimes I am up to, and sometimes I want to wave the white flag of surrender.

  12. I would love some fresh ideas for Family gifts. We are not in session for Fathers Day and with the economy the way it is I have made our Mothers Day Tea into a Family Thank you Tea. This way Dad, Mom Grandparents etc can attend so each Child has a adult. Its hard to come up with fresh gift ideas.

Bats for Halloween would be cool too.

  13. I need help with some new themes; need center ideas:

    – Learning Together
    – Art All Around Us
    – Going New Places
    – Trying New Things
    – Staying Safe
    – Going Green

We got a new curriculum this year . . .

  14. I love to have the children make a valentine with their photo on it and I am stumped for a new idea. I have been teaching for over 25 yrs and need some fresh valentine ideas………thanks

  15. Activities or lessons that are open-ended for the kids to respond are my favorites.

The Summer Olympics is a topic that would be very helpful!

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to voice our opinions. 🙂

  16. I would love to see more ideas on Martin Luther King Day and Presidents Day and maybe some on Dramatic play centers.. Thanks

  17. I would love more articles featured on Black History Month to help teachers get beyond the MLK, Rosa Parks, Booker T. Washington,Jackie Robinson,Brown v. Board of Ed. and WEB DuBois. African Americans have such rich history, I am so tired of teachers just stick to the above people. In the words of one of my students, who is also African American, “it is like my teacher sees me, and she see right through me, and still sees nothing.” Often, I feel like a one man battleship at my school.

  18. I would love some ideas for gross motor activities, better ideas for assessments, fun ideas for activities to send home as “homework” for preschool age kids. Maybe even some portfolio ideas.

  19. I agree with the teacher who wants more ideas on groups with only one teacher and lots of talkers. I would also like ideas for multicultural lessons as I am trying to iniate a multicultural fair at my school this year.

  20. I’d love to see lots of summer themed activities and lessons for those of us who teach year round!

  21. I would love to see more ideals to work with both 2 and three year olds that and also children who have Autism, speech and fine motor skills. Something in which I do not loose the children who are ahead. I find myself doing double work at times. Any ideas or feedback will the greatly apprecicated.
Thank you all and have a Great Year!
    Elizabeth

  22. I would like some age appropriate websites for preschoolers. Technology is part of our curriculum and they will not allow us to put new games on the computer but want us to use the internet. Any ideas? Also some new dental ideas would be great.

  23. I would like to see more ELAR materials for the intermediate grades, especially extras for my unit on poetry. (ie.the different types of poetry: concrete poems, haikus, lymericks, narrative poetry, cinquains, etc.)

  24. some tips for when students have been back from vacation for 2 weeks, but still haven’t adjusted to being back on “school time”-lots of talking, not so much listening/working yet-Thanks!

  25. I teach pre k children who are just turning 2 yrs old. I would love to hear about more keepsake art. We do a lot of handprint art projects for special occassions like Mother`s Day. I`d love to hear some new ideas for simple art keepsake projects that I could do with my young kiddos that their parents would love to keep and cherish forever. Also I`d love to hear about some hallway board ideas. I get tired of doing the same old decorations and would love to have some fresh ideas about beginning school and holiday ideas. Thank y`all 🙂

  26. I have ten three year olds and one small room. I would love some ideas on making the most of my space, ways to keep the students busy while I am working one on one or in small groups and how to make the day productive for all. I would also love idea’s on working with children who will not find something to do on their own. No matter what there is to choose from they just can’t find anything to do except bother others.

  27. I would like some ideas to help my own child with autism–high end– to stay above the anger in the regular classroom when the teachers opt not to use the anger charts and schedules. It become a challege when I work here and they don’t do it.

  28. I’m always looking for organizational tools and tips. I teach 3 grades in one classroom and am in need of some routines for basic materials, etc.

  29. I would like to see some ideas for a 3rd grade ESL classroom … hands-on (& games) language arts – grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing. Math ideas (games, hands-on) would be a plus … especially if they coincide with the new common core standards.

  30. Hi, I’m a Brazilian EFL teacher. I would like to see more instant ideas for Arts & Crafts to toddlers and kindergaten.
