Increased “App-titude”

Guess what? Guess what? Guess what? I am the proud owner of a brand new iPad! I have to tell you, I’m tickled pink! (And it just so happens that the cover of my sleek new iPad is pink too. 🙂 ) I’m having a ball learning how incredible this gadget is. It truly does amazing things! I’m still getting up to speed. It’s going to take me a while to wrap my head around the total technological package. Of course, I’m making time for fun discoveries too. I’ve snapped a few surprise pictures of unsuspecting friends, and my pooch, Lexie, is sure that my ringtone is really a duck trapped inside my iPad. Come to think of it, I’d better rethink my ringtone choice. What if she decides to go duck hunting in my absence?

I’m curious. Is your school updating its technology offerings for the new school year? Or have you discovered new offerings—such as a new computer or an interactive whiteboard program—that you’re excited to try once school starts? Please share!

Quack, quack!

  1. I’m buying the Everyday Counts Calendar that has gone digital and can be used for your Smartboard. Can’t wait to see it.

  2. Our school is still in the dark ages when it comes to technology. And since the state is broke, there is no chance that things will change when school starts next month.

I download educational games on my iPhone for my students to use: color games, number games, ABC games, etc. They have a blast with it.

If I ever get an iPad, it will be out of my own pocket. 😉

  3. I’m so excited! Our preschool just purchased 20 laptop computers and phonics games so that we could begin to teach our 4’s and 5’s how to care for these tools and use them. We’ve set up a computer lab that the children visit 1-2 times a week.

  4. Our state and school district have no extra money to buy anything this year, so I can only hope for an iPad one day! Congrats to you! That is so exciting! Have fun and enjoy it! =)

  5. I recently attend a workshop that introduced “Thinkfinity”. Our school system has subscribed to it for the teachers. It is produced by Verizon. You can search anything and come up with Lesson Plans, Games, Activities, Worksheets, and Interactive Lessons for the Activeboard. I was very impressed.

  6. I’ve had a Smart tablet for a few years, but I moved rooms and will have an actual Smartboard in my room next year. Super excited! It’s really sad that every classroom can’t have the most updated technology. Maybe someday schools will be funded they way they really need to be once again.

  7. My husband has an ipad and I am up next in the family list of who gets a new “toy”. He loves his. He is also a school teacher, and he has really used it so much. Our school, unfortunately, has not purchased any iPads for classroom use. We are having to cut back on teacher positions, so I guess it will be a while before money is available for “extras”.

  8. Last school year, our school made it possible to project on a projector screen the computer screen. Using a wireless mouse and keyboard, the children were able to participate and interact in Pre-K games and activiities from software as well as computer sites. It is an activity that captures most children’s attention.

Personally, I have a Color Nook and love it. The interactive stories for children are great!

  9. We don’t have SmartBoards, but all of our classrooms were recently equipped with multimedia projectors, DVD players, and sound systems. They have been great teaching tools! I mainly use them to play whole-group educational games with my first graders. Thanks to this technology, one of our Pre-K classes was able to watch one of the last shuttle launches live on the internet. We are hoping that with enough fundraiser money we can get an iPad for each teacher that can interface with the computers and projectors.

  10. I got an Elmo and digital projector last year and absolutely fell in love with those two things! They are an amazing tool. This year I will finally have a SMARTboard, and I’m so excited about it! I’ve been working on SMARTboard lessons all summer. I’m sooooo slow at making them right now, but it’s been fun.
