Honest Abe and Amazing Apps

If Abraham Lincoln were still living, he would be celebrating his 208th birthday today. Have you ever wondered what Abe might think of our current world? This wonder occurred to me while I was investigating some of the “favorite apps” shared by teachers who have entered this February’s First Friday Giveaway. (There’s still time to enter. Details are below.) When I pause to think about all the technological advancements that have taken place in my lifetime, I’m amazed—and I’m not THAT old!

So what are some of our blog readers’ favorite apps? Pinterest and Facebook are the runaway winners. Weather apps are popular among teachers. So are the teacher-targeted apps such as Class Dojo, Remind, and Bloomz that can be used for discipline management, parent communication, and much more. The navigation app Waze, received a few mentions. My buddy Karen told me about this one and I give it five stars. I’m intrigued by the app Duolingo. It’s a language learning app offering lessons in more than 20 different languages. A teacher or two mentioned Calm, which sounds like a winner of an app. Kahoot receives great reviews as a learning app. Favorite just-for-fun game app mentions included Gardenscapes, Candy Crush, and Snoopy Pop.

If you download one of these apps, let me know how you like it. And if you haven’t yet entered our First Friday Giveaway by sharing your favorite apps, CLICK HERE. One lucky teacher will win a prize pack of shiny new teacher supplies!

Technology rocks (except when it doesn’t)!

Diane

PS: My friend Karen suggested that Honest Abe would probably be a fan of the app Words With Friends. I totally agree!

  1. Too many to name, but our newest class favorite is See Saw – the kids LOVE uploading all of their work and sharing it. I love that they are learning important communication skills!
