Hobnobbing With the Famous: Who Have You Met? (Plus Win These Books!)

A few weeks ago my younger daughter was thrilled to meet US Figure Skating National Men’s Champ (and, it seems, all-round nice guy) Nathan Chen. He’d just dominated the national competition and was graciously autographing items, posing for photos, and taking time with the fans. I was impressed, and my junior skater was thrilled!

  1. I have met authors Sharon Draper and Doreen Cronin. I was also about ten feet away from Bill’ and Hilary Clinton’s limo while watching their motorcade return to the White House.

  2. I met Eddie George on a flight to Tennessee. He also talked to another girl & myself as we walked through the airport. He was a very sweet gentleman.

  3. I’d hate to call myself a stalker, but I’ve “run into” Hall & Oates many times…….
P.S. Thanks to all my partners in crime!

  4. I have met many wonderful authors, including Susan Cooper, Jane Yolen, Avi, Chris Demarest, Ursula LeGuin, Margaret Read MacDonald….

  5. Karen, I’m so thrilled to find out that your daughter got to meet Nathan Chen!!!! WOW!!!! Many years ago I met Katarina Witt, Brian Boitano, Caryn Kadavy, Barbara Underhill, Paul Martini, Alexandre Fadeev, Judy Blumberg, & Elizabeth Manley. They were all incredibly, wonderfully nice.

  6. Many years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting a legendary singer named Phyllis Hyman. She happened to be appearing at a radio station that I interned at early one morning. Grabbing a few of her cds , I headed over there expecting to catch a glimpse of her and (hopefully) get some cds signed. She was sweet, funny, and goofy that morning. She made the silliest face for me as I snapped a few pictures of her. Not too long after that encounter, the news broke that her life came to a tragic end. I was blessed to have seen her that day and will always remember her charm and grace.

  7. I met a friend of my Dad, Art Gibson he’s a Country Western Singer. He owned a lounge in Chicago and my Dad would sing there and bring me with. Sometimes I would sing with him. Art gave me a 45 RPM of one of his songs and an autograph. I still have them.
