Happy Belated Birthday, Henry!

One of my favorite quotes is the words of a true pioneer, Henry Ford, who, by the way, was born yesterday in the year 1863.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.”

As a teacher, I was reminded of the power of positive thinking almost daily, whether I was nurturing a child, encouraging a colleague, or pulling myself up by my own bootstraps!

Who knows, maybe Henry ultimately inspired the “I can…” statements used in classrooms today. Do you have a favorite quote or an “I can…” statement you’d like to share? Please do!

Happily,

Diane

PS: Hey, don’t forget this is the last day of July! Make sure you’ve shared a favorite project that requires scissors at “Make Every Day Special.” Two pairs of super-duper Westcott scissors, are up for grabs! And at “Teaching Tips” the editors are eager to learn your best tips for helping kiddos learn to share (classroom supplies, playground equipment) and take turns (during classroom discussions, games).

  1. “I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil. 4:13 Instilling this in a 2 year old without “preaching” it can be tricky.

  2. I always tell my kiddos that they can do anything. If they say they can’t I always tell them I dont like the word can’t.

  3. I tell Kindergarten that we are “Americans” not “American’ts”.This is a quote by Dr. Jean Feldman,an expert on Early Childhood Education.

  4. I love “impossible is not a word, it’s just a reason not to try” from a song “What faith can do” by Kutless.

  5. “You is smart. You is kind. You is important.” – from the movie, The Help.
I correct the grammar when I say it to my kinders.
