  1. My “good luck token” is prayer. I pray for my students and their families before I meet them. I pray over their desks and cubbies even before they come into the classroom. That way I do not have to worry about anything because my students will be in God’s care. It works every year!

  2. My good luck start to the new year is always a new outfit for the first day! It helps me feel ready to face the new year with new faces! =)

  3. My good luck token is to read my promises for the teacher it not only gives me inspiration for the new year but inspiration to pass on to my kindergarten students.

  4. My lucky charm is new school clothes for me and new teaching supplies.

And a surprise special sometime snack for all of the kids on the first day. Ice Cream it helps set the tone for a fun year.

  5. I believe that I might have a bigger fetish for new school supplies than my students. However, my tokens may be that along with a new outfit for the first day of school (happens to be today), I love passing out new journals and other materials as well as having a beginning of the year writing/art project for one of our bulletin boards. Today, we are making polar bear and brown bear (yep, I saw three polar bears last night) backdrops for our Friendship stories. Do you believe in pizzlys or grolar bears? Happy First Day of School to those that are getting started with kids today and in the next few weeks.

  6. I use to always wear the same dress, but now I am more worried about getting my own kids ready in the morning! So I make sure to make them a really good breakfast and we take pictures on the first day!

  7. This is my first year of school (teaching) so I’m not sure if I have a good luck charm yet!! But I do have a lucky necklace in general, so perhaps I will wear that in the hopes that it will work for the first day too!! 🙂

  8. My “good luck token” is a kissing hand from each of my boys. We make each other kissing hands and laminate them the day before school starts. My boys keep theirs in their lockers or backpacks and I hang mine in my classroom where I can see them. That way we always have a piece of eachother all day long.

  9. My good luck charm is a picture of my family hanging up in the classroom. I feel if I have them close by all will be safe.

  10. On our first day, I wake up my girls with a giant hug. We then get dressed in our cutest outfits and sit down to a “fancy” breakfast, as my kids call it, of homemade waffles, berries and whipped cream. After breakfast, we take our first day of school photos. It is always amazing to me to see how much my girls have changed year to year. We then head back inside our home to sit down at our newly organized desks with our new supplies and start our year with a smile.

  11. I have a little brass bell that my parents had engraved with my name on it. I received it as a gift when I graduated from college and my teacher prep program. This good luck charm reminds me of how hard I’ve worked, how far I’ve come, and how much I enjoy working with children!

  12. I carry a heart-shaped “worry rock” that my mother gave to me years ago. When I start feeling nervous or anxious, I put my hand in my pocket and rub my stone! It also helps me to know that my mother is thinking of me.

  13. I am a new teacher and I have decided that every year my good luck token will be buying a new pair of funky socks! I keep another good luck charm in my room which is a little guy climbing (like up a ladder). My father-in-law (may he rest in peace) made it years ago when my kids were growing up to chart their growth. It’s a special token that will be with me always.

  14. Hmmm, everyone gets a fresh new good luck pencil. I figure if they start off with a little perk from me, it will all go smoothly.

  15. I pray over my students and my first day lessons. I also have a “5 things about me” bag that I fill with things to introduce myself to my students. After that, we all take turns bringing in 5 things to share with the rest of the class.

  16. I always buy a new outfit, get a special snack for.the class and plan fun lessons. I also pray each day for my students and families but I really like Pam’s idea for praying and plan to do that . I am going to pray and bless each child once they are in the classroom and settled.

  17. My good luck tokens are “A Teacher’s Prayer” laminated card, my Willowtree Teacher Angel, & also an “apple” clock a friend gave me for my desk!

  18. We start off with a breakfast burritos. I will wear my favorite shirt. My son will wear his new clothes. We will take pictures of our first day!! So exciting!!!

  19. My lucky charms for a great year are: A freshly painted and decorated classroom. A well rested teacher and a blessing from our Good Lord for a happy successful Pre-k year.

  20. I always arrive early so that I can pray over my classroom and sometimes a group of co-workers gather in one classroom and we pray for every student, teacher, and staff member and pray for a successful and safe school year. I always make sure to eat a great breakfast and a great night’s sleep.

  21. Prep, prep, prep. and lists lists lists. And when I think everything is done I sit and look around run a few scenarios around in my head to see if I need to change anything. Also, I try to meet with my parents and kids beforehand (especially the ones that have some special circumstances) Talk with the Intermediate Unit about the kids that I am going to have that they have and we will be working with together to make sure what we do in the classroom is settings kids up to succeed.

  22. I bought a new “blingy” t-shirt for this year. It says, “1st Grade Rocks” So, I purchase a medium sized rock for each student and wrote “1st Grade Rocks” on each one. Students and parents loved these! It was fun!

  23. I always get plenty of rest the night before school starts, wear a new outfit and get to school VERY early!!! For the first week of school, I greet every student at the door and tell them how glad I am they are in my class. It really sets the tone for the year and my first graders love it!

  24. Our staff always takes time to pray together before the school year starts. We ask God to bless our school, students, parents, and staff throughout the new school year.

  25. My good luck token is to spend the night before hand with my family and reminding myself to have patience, open heart and mind with my future students and my own children since the school year demands so much of my time. We usually bbq and watch our favorite movies. I tried to sleep, but I am very nervous and usually wake up early and make it to school early.
