Free Tea?

Yes, teachers. Today, June 10, is National Iced Tea Day. I promise to not overdo with these national food and drink days, though you might want to check out your local area for free tea deals!

This special day sparked an economical gift-giving idea for parent volunteers. All you need is an inexpensive plastic pitcher (around $2.00), some tissue paper, powdered drink mix, and a handmade “Thanks for pitching in!” tag. Cute!

What ideas do you have for letting parent volunteers know their help during the school year is genuinely appreciated?

Happy Iced Tea Day!

  1. This year, I bought inexpensive plastic flower pots. I wrote “Thank You” on the side. Then students wrote a word to describe each of the volunteers. Then we planted our flowers, that we had grown, into the pots. These were given to our volunteers the morning of our “Volunteer Breakfast.”

  2. I purchased ceramic plant pots and let the kids paint them, then we planted flowers and added a note that said, “Thank you for helping us grow”.

  3. I always do a thank you tea for my Families. Today it is often Dad’s or Grandparents who volunteer not just Mom. So I bring in ice cream and a few toppings for a ice cream sundaes for families and kids. The kids sing a song and this years gift was footprint butterflies, with a thank you for helping me fly put on it and laminated. I also put a ribbon hanger on top. The Parents and Families loved it.

  4. We give an end of the year luncheon. Teachers provided salads and dessert. Students make place mats and center pieces.

  5. I buy a box of lifesaver rolls at the beginning of the year and make copies of a cute note saying,
“Thanks so much for your help! You’re a “LifeSaver”!!!!!
Whenever you have unexpected ‘help’ or chaperones, etc….I just pull a roll of lifesavers out of my desk and have the kids sign the note. Great in a pinch! Parents love them!
