Food for Thought

Blog-PickleI just discovered I was born on National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day. I’m not sure how I feel about this. If I’d been born one day later, I could claim Strawberry Ice Cream Day. One day earlier, I’d be known as a National Peach Melba Day baby. You see, it has come to my attention that for each day of the year, including Leap Day (Surf and Turf Day), there is at least one official (or unofficial) food- or beverage-related celebration. Those of you born on today’s date, November 14, share the day with pickles and guacamole. I can’t decide what to say about that!

To learn the foods and beverages associated with your birthday and those of your students, colleagues, and family members, click here. And yes, I’m hoping you’ll share what you learn! And while we’re on the subject of birthdays, I’d also like to learn your favorite ways to recognize students’ birthdays throughout the school year.

Gosh, this blog has made me hungry!

PS: Ticktock! My pal Karen is giving away a neat classroom tool that can help your students—and you!—manage time. Click here to check out the Time Timer Plus giveaway on the Learning blog. The timer normally costs $37.50 but, if your name is chosen, it could be yours for free!

  1. I have a special sign that the kiddos names are posted on that says its their birthday. I have a sign for their chair that says happy birthday. I use birthday badges and we sing happy birthday and the child picks their job of the day.
