Don’t Forget March!

As I drove to an appointment this past week, I noticed a woman outside her home decorating her yard with faux Easter eggs on sticks. It took me about a mile more to process that it’s February and Easter isn’t until April. That’s a bit like decorating for Christmas in October. I’m all about people doing what gives them joy, but I feel like there are some lions, lambs, and leprechauns feeling shortchanged.

I’ll be the first to say that March is a supremely boring month—and because it’s usually the month before spring break it means that March feels like it has 1,864 days. But that means we need to make the best of it so it’s less painful! Print these lion and lamb page toppers. If you would like to use the writing paper I used in the sample above, you can print it here. Then have students write on the desired topic below. Finally, have them color, cut out, and attach their chosen paper topper! These look cute displayed in the hallway or on a bulletin board and they are appropriate for the entire endless month of March. 😉

Writing Prompts

1. Write a paragraph that starts, “It was a very windy day.”
2. According to an old saying, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. What do you think that means?
3. Spring begins this year on March 20, 2023. What will you miss the most about winter. Why?
4. If you could be a lion or a lamb, which would you want to be and why?
