The Mermaid’s Purse
The new Patricia Polacco book would be wonderful!
Oh, my, the book would be a cherished addition to our best-loved books written by her. We so love the intricate detail in her books. Students from K-Gr. 3 are always enthralled with the characters in her books…but even more so are delighted to catch a glimpse of who she is when she shares her life as a child during (learn 360: Reading Rainbow) Rechenka’s Egg…making the story become even more alive and real.
Speak the name “Patricia Polacco” in my classroom and watch fifth graders circle up with excitement because something magical happens in her world of storytelling. Her books open the door for us to discuss real life lessons and themes, plus many relate to social studies topics. So I signed up for Citgo rewards because gift cards to spend in my classroom probably means more books to enjoy! Plus I like the idea of sharing with another educator.
I would love the “Mermaid’s Purse”. I have one niece and 4 nephews. My niece could use a little pampering.
Code-a-thin sounds interesting.
I would love a copy of The Mermaid’s Purse. Patricia Polacco is a favorite!

the book with my class. Thank you for this opportunity to win new literature!
I would love to do the Code-a-thon with my students. They love coding!
I’m starting to use Google more and more and my team is using Google drive to share materials we creat. Would love to learn more about using it the classroom. And a new Patricia Polacco book – that would be awesome!!
I adore Patricia Polacco! I am starting a new unit with my library students on Tuesday 11/1 using many of her books. The Mermaids Purse would make a perfect addition to my unit as well as to the school library so that all could enjoy it.
I met Patricia Polacco during the 2014-2015 school year. She was giving a talk at a nearby public lbrary. I knew I just had to go meet her as she is one of my favorite authors! Patricia shared personal stories with us, showed us the Keeping Quilt and retold it to us. She did not read it to us, because she explained she does not read her books aloud, to this day she still has anxiety as she has a LD ( dyslexia) like the girl in her book “Thank You Mr. Faulkner”. I found this to be an amazing, refreshingly honest story. Reminding us that we have to remember that each one of our students has different needs to succeed. Even the “grown up children.”
Thank you Patricia Palocco for your words and your and for giving us SO MANY WONDERFUL BOOKS/ TOOLS to use in our classrooms!
Sincerely,
a teacher, fan and lifelong learner,
Lisa Marie Gee
