Beep! Waa! Meow!

Do you wake up to one of those sounds each morning? When I was growing up, I usually awoke to the sound of “clank, clank, clank.” My dad was an enthusiastic stirrer. He could bang the heck out of the inside of a coffee mug. Nowadays, I rely on a bit of music to awaken me. However, when I don’t spring into action fast enough, one of two things occurs: either a furry kitty paw gently taps me on the nose or a cold wet nose belonging to a 50-pound ball of fur effectively brings me to life.

So how about you? What motivates you to rise and shine during the school week? Does your motivation come from inside your home? Or is it thoughts of your students that prompt you to throw back your covers?

Share your wake-up motivation at Upper Grades ExchangeMorning Motivators Book Giveaway,” and you’ll automatically be entered to win a free book of your choice from The Mailbox. There’s only one tiny hitch. Your comment must be received before 11:59 PM on Sunday, January 20, 2013.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Our school board recently treated the faculty to a Keurig coffee maker! It is a delight to get into school and not have to spend time preparing the old coffee machine that used to take AGES to drip.
Now.. I have my coffee in a jiffee and can sit quietly in my classroom and contemplate what the day looks like. Many thanks to the TKA school board!

  2. My personal wake-up is my body clock, I am an early riser. What I like to do with my kids first thing in the morning is a little stretching timebefore we dive into the day.

  3. I wake up at the same time most mornings. Now I do not like the cold Michigan winters but knowing that my students look forward to school gets me out there and moving.

  4. My body wakes me early every morning. Thoughts of reteaching specific lessons to specific children fill my mind. I’m anxious to gather the necessary learning game or flashcard or manipulative that will help the child. Then I fix my tea and play a video game before I shower and head out to school.

  5. I have a 50-mile round-trip for work each day, so I know I need to get up and head 25 miles into town. I usually wake up before my alarm goes off.

I don’t drink coffee. Instead, I have a Diet Coke to give me a caffeine boost. 😉

The long drive to work gives me a chance to relax and review in my mind the things I need to accomplish each day. 🙂
