A Stinky Shoe

So what are some of the more unusual items your students have brought to school for sharing time? A few years back during a five-senses theme, my nephew secretly transported one very worn and smelly “lawn” shoe to school. He proudly presented the shoe to his classmates as a stinky shoe. Gotta love it!

Tell your stories and share your tips for managing this special time of day, too!

Smiles!

  1. How about a wall clock? It was black with a stark white Playboy Bunny silhouette across the front! And the kid said I could keep it! DONATE!

  2. I do a letter bag the children bring things that start with the letter we are learning that week and we rotate who gets it with a name chart.

I had a very amusing year with one child he filled the letter bag with his dog’s fur for the letter F. My bag is quite large and I am unsure if he brushed the dog or shaved him.
The reason I now have 2 letter bags. LOl
Later the same boy brought in a tarantula spider for letter T.
Yes it was alive thankful it was in a container.

  3. Oh my, this is a hard one to decide from. There are so many! I’m going to share two. One as a mommy, and one as the teacher.

When my son was in first grade, he brought his younger sister in for show and share. He told the class just about everything you can possibly imagine…even where he kept her. lol

It was 4 yr old “J”‘s day for show and share. She walked importantly to the front of circle carrying a well loved teddy bear. She placed the teddy bear on the ground by her feet and said proudly, “Last night my mom and dad were making these noises in their bedroom.” and proceeded to moan and groan! It took all I had not to laugh out loud.

  4. My first year was at a rural school in Michigan. Deer hunting season was a big deal and sometimes kids would be absent from school during those days. Usually if a student had a pre-excused absence they were to bring back a report of his or her adventure. One student brought back a paper bag. When it was his turn, he pulled out a deer’s ear! The 7 year olds were fascinated. This city slicker was squeamish, but dare not let on.

  5. After 17 years of teaching kindergarten I thought I had seen it all. I guess I was wrong. This year one of my students brought her tonsils in a baby food jar of formaldehyde. Everyone seemed quite interested to see them. I couldn’t wait for the day to be over so they would go home!

  6. I once had a student bring her cat to school in her school bag for show and tell. To this day I don’t know how she hid the thing from the school bus staff on her way to school. lol
