A Season for Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes love me…I mean they REALLY love me. I’m originally from Michigan, where we half-jokingly refer to the mosquito as our state bird. (When you have over 11,000 lakes you end up with a lot of mosquitoes.) Although I would be happy if mosquitoes disappeared from our planet, animals like frogs and bats would be decidedly unhappy. And because I rather enjoy frogs and bats, I’ll put up with dozens of itchy bumps on my legs and arms every summer. That’s why I rather enjoy this adorable song in which the frog triumphs over the mosquito. That’s one less that’s coming after me. 🙂

(sung to the tune of “Clementine”)

Oh mosquito, oh mosquito,
Please be careful; have a care.
You are flying by a bullfrog.
He could eat you. Please, beware!
He is green, and he is bumpy,
And he has a tongue that’s long.
Oh mosquito, oh mosquito,
There’s a ZAP! And now you’re gone!

Have youngsters use these mosquito patterns to make stick puppet props to go with the song!
