So, how’s your Monday going? Grandly, I hope. Mine just got a whole lot better. Or make that a “hole” lot better! I just devoured a doughnut (with sprinkles!) in celebration of yesterday’s Steelers victory over another football team. 🙂 As you can tell, I don’t follow football closely. But, I gotta tell you, that doughnut scored a touchdown in my Monday morning playbook. Thanks, Karen!
I do have a quick question for you today. And since it’s a Monday, I’ll make it multiple choice. Oh, what the heck: I’ll make it a giveaway! (I think I’m sugared up!)
Submit your answer to this question by the end of Tuesday, and your name will be entered in a drawing for a February surprise.
How do you keep the dates on your classroom calendar in place?
- masking tape
- Sticky-Tac adhesive (or something similar)
- pushpins
- slots in my calendar
- none of the above (please explain)
Smiles,
Diane
Congratulations, Vickie! You’re the winner.
Stucky-Tac and Magnetic strips
D 🙂
I have a calendar pocket chart – so D. slots in my calendar. I LOVE IT! I do patterns for each month – January is snowflake, snowflake, snowman, snowman. As we say the letters (A A B B) they clap out the pattern – so clap clap (while saying A A), pat pat (B B). My kids love doing this, have fun, great way to learn their patterns all year (patterns change every month) and it gets them moving. I love my calendar! 🙂
B now, but I used to use Stikki Clips.
I use sticky tac too. (must be the blue kind!) We also do a pattern so it changes every month. never thought of clapping the pattern out – I am going to have to try that this week!! thanks!!
Stickytac….
I keep wanting to get around to changing it to strip magnets, but there is always something more pressing to do.. My life…
E. I have a regular calendar chart that I laminated and cut my own slits into. I then added a paper clip into each slit. I just slip each number under the paper clip. This works like a charm!!!!!!
A. Masking tape
E.
I Use velcro tape.
Sticky goo all the way. It must be the blue though otherwise it doesn’t hold.
To hold the whole thing to the board though I use push pins.
Hope everyone is staying warm. Here in Michigan its wind chill minus 6. I am so cold.
Sticky Tac
E. I use magnets on my calendar. I have stuck magnets to the backside of the plastic calendar holder so that I can switch out the calendar as I need to and then I have taken another magnet and attached it to the numbers, day of the week, and month cards. Each day of the month has a shape or color around the number so I can also work on patterns with the kids.
D- slots in the calendar
D. I splurged a few years ago and bought the calendar pocket chart and the cards slip right into each slot. I have them all turned over so that the kids don’t see the date until we get there. I have different cards for each month so there are patterns for the different months.
I use paperclips. I bought one of the calendars available at the teacher stores and laminated it. Then I cut slits on each date and stuck a paperclip through it. Now all the kids have to do is slide it into the paperclip. So easy!!!
Good old masking tape!
The calendar I use has slots. I love hearing everyones
ideas!
Paperclips through the slits!
I have the Calendar with pockets. It’s blue and I put the days in and I put the pattern behind. Every day we say, the day of the week, the month, and day #
then we do the pattern, now it’s snowflake, snowflake, mitten, mitten, We start with red apple green apple, red apple, green apple in September and each month is different. The children love and are thrilled when they get it right. Usually about the middle of the month.
I use a two sided sticky tape. It works great and holds well.
I have found that Velcro dots work the best for me.
I use paperclips. I cut slits in the top of each day’s block and have it laminated. Then I cut the slits open. I put the jumbo paper clips through the slots (the smooth clips) and use book tape to secure the clips in the back. That way I can put any of the square calendar pieces I want in the date slot and if I want to use something to really pop on a certain date, the jumbo clips will hold just about anything and the tape on the back keeps it all secure.
My calendar has slits…I have had it for about 12 years and its still in great shape! I won it thru a teacher give-a-way thru Target (that I forgot I had entered!). It was a great surprise when it, along with a whole box of other items, showed up on my doorstep!
I use Masking tape, I need to find a better solution so I am not wasting as much.
I use my finger to drag the date tags onto the calendar! I have a SMARTBOARD! My students actually do it!
None of the above! I use Velcro tape! It works awesome!!
Hi I use to use velcro dots now I have a pocket calander
I use those old fashioned plastic tabs that have the gummy back. I have one per day so that I can slide my paper that has the date on it! It works very well!!
My calendar has the small curtain hooks and the calendar days are laminated with holes punched out. Every month has a different color pattern~aa, ab, abb, etc.
Stikki-clips!
I have slots on my calendar
I use velcro on my calendar and calendar pieces. The initial cost of using velcro is high, but the pieces last for years.
e. I use dry erase calendars so that I may erase them and use them again and again.

I don’t use a month calendar. I use a block calendar. I was always frustrated without enough wall space.
A. Masking tape
A bit old-fashinoned but it does the job 🙂
I use velcro. It works well and it is easy for the children to put the dates on the calendar.
Sticky Tac
I use masking tape.
B sticky tack adhesive
Every day in my JK/SK classroom, a student, whose job for the day is calendar, changes the name of the day and adds the next number on our calendar that is also stuck on the board with sticky tack. I think it’s the greatest invention. I use it everywhere in my classroom. It’s not good for sticking special helper badges on though. I use masking tape for that.
I use Velcro! It’s quick, easy, and durable. When we have a birthday or special event, students can pull one date off and add a note on one of our blank squares.
B. Sticky Tac
Go Steelers!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Sticky Tac the blue kind
I have a magnetic wall calendar. It has its own little messages that are also magnetic. It is dry erase for months, days, and years. Students love to do calendar activities.
I have a calendar pocket chart that I use to keep them in.
I do not have a physical calendar. My calendar activities are set up on my Promethean Board in my classroom. I create it on my Mac, then project it on the board.
I use stikki-clips. They work wonderfully!
E.I have a pocket calendar much like a pocket chart. i have laminated squares that the helper of the day writes the date on with a vis a vis marker and then puts the square into the picket calendar. It has a place at the top for the name of the month and the second row has the names of the days of the week. I LOVE it!
I have a pocket chart calendar to put my dates/events/birthdays in, but I also have my fantastic SmartBoard, so we also drag our events onto the calendar! How did I ever teach without a SmartBoard?? 🙂
Pocket Chart, plus tape where one slot is not sewn correctly! I used to use push-pins but like the pocket chart much better.
Velcro dots. They work great and make it easy to change!
I use sticky-tac, but I like the slits with paper clips idea, so I’m going to try it.
I have a pocket chart for the days of the week and I use clips for the weather calandar.
I use sticky tac. I think I’m gonna try the velcro dots that Dawn uses.. Thanks for posting this.. Great ideas..
I use masking tape. The date cards change each month to teach a different patterning skill. Otherwise I would prefer to use velcro.
Small bits of sticky tac adhesives is the best way to go – since it is gentle on the lamination and reusable.
I use masking tape because it’s easy to take off at the end of the month. I make my own calendar shapes from construction paper to teach patterns to my SK class. Each month the pattern gets more difficult and at the end of the month a student gets to take the pattern home. It also helps those who may be having difficulty identifying their numbers to 31!
D.slots in my calendar
I like this ideal because I find it easier for me and for the kids. They can help by putting the number of the day in the slots.
B. Sticky Tac – the blue one. I have been using it for years and love the stuff!
magnets
E.I use velcro dots. They work great!:)
Velcro dots
I use to use sticky tack but the kids kept pulling them off so now I use a calender pocket chart. I also do a pattern with the date cards which my 4 year olds are real quick to pick up on!
E. Other: I have cardstock calendars for each month that I ordered with fun facts on them, one for each day. I write important dates/birthdays right on the calendar each month. Then at the end of the month, whoever had a birthday in that month gets to put their name in for a drawing of the calendar. The kids love it!
I use masking tape on my calendar or regular tape.
I usually use masking tape to secure the numbers on my calendar.
Wow! It is great to hear from so many of you. Thanks for participating. This was fun and interesting!
My concern is about all our new Arab/Muslim students. Are there any books and/or activities for their holidays, such as Ramadan or Eid? Please help!
I use paper clips. I used an Exacto knife to cut a slit at the top of each square (where I will be placing the date card). Then I simply slide each date card in place. Our math requires us to turn the date over one day at a time rather than showing the whole month at once. It is really easy for the children to slide the card out of the paper clip and turn it over.
I have pockets on my calendar chart.
