A Major Force

I’ve yet to see the new blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” However, I do have a fun teacher-related tidbit to share. The original character of Maz Kanata, the wise space pirate, is based on director J. J. Abrams’s high school English teacher, Rose Gilbert! Abrams brought the idea to an early story meeting, explaining that Ms. Gilbert was a “timeless, wise figure.” He felt that having a character of this type would bring authenticity to the wild Star Wars fantasy.

Apparently in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” this teacher-based space pirate provides some much needed insight to the film’s heroine, Rey. Love it! And I love teachers for making such lasting impressions on their students.

Abrams described his former teacher as wise and timeless. What adjectives might your students use to describe you?

Sending the force your way,

Diane

  1. I don’t really know how the kiddos I have would describe me other than one. I taught all 3 children in one family. Each year I teach about St Patricks day and leprechauns. We of course make traps to catch him and its always fun. Of course its very exciting to the children.
The year I had the youngest child in this family she went home telling them all about the leprechaun and how we were going to catch him. The oldest child said to his Mother Why do you let Mrs Taig lie to the kids like that. Wow she is a liar. LOL
