I was looking for a list of pumpkin-themed picture books to post on The Mailbox® Facebook page, and I couldn’t find one that consistently had good solid choices. And I certainly don’t want to recommend books that I consider to be a bit “meh”. So I decided to make my own mini list of pumpkin-themed books. In my totally subjective opinion, these are the best of the best. What do you think?
Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell
The Runaway Pumpkin by Kevin Lewis, illustrated by S.D. Schindler
Too Many Pumpkins by Linda White, illustrated by Megan Lloyd
Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, illustrated by S.D. Schindler
Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper
*The Runaway Pumpkin and Big Pumpkin are both illustrated by S. D. Schindler. Consider reading both books and encouraging students to compare the illustrations. How are they different?
These books are also good and fun reads:
The Bumpy Little Pumpkin- by Margery Cuyler.
From Seed To Pumpkin – by Wendy Pfeffer.
The Roll- Away Pumpkin – by Junia Wonders.
Too many Pumpkins – by Linda White.
From Seed To Pumpkin by Wendy Pfeffer
I have to say I agree with Replies one and two: From Seed to Pumpkin and also Five Little Pumpkins is a favorite to my Preschoolers.
