Teacher think time—sounds like the punch line of a bad joke, doesn’t it? Finding quality think time during a busy school day is pretty much impossible. Sure, you may have planning time, but how often does this time get gobbled up by meetings, last-minute tasks, visitors, and so on?
Yesterday, I read a quote from best-selling author Agatha Christie that made me think of y’all: “The best time for planning a book is while you’re doing the dishes.” I think Agatha was onto something here!
Some of my best ideas come while my brain is at rest. Here’s a list of my top five think times:
1. taking a shower
2. walking the dog
3. driving
4. drying my hair
5. doing yard work

I do my thinking while in the tub.
I have also found that at night things come to me. I end up getting up writing them down and then its back to bed.
I create in my head as I fall asleep at night. Then I wake up and jot some notes down.
So I can complete my project later. It works for me!
I think in the shower or while putting on my makeup.
I always seem to do my best thinking in the shower. Something about the quiet, relaxing environment free any any other distractions seems to allow the ideas and solutions to flow. When I need to think, I also like to go for long walks without my ipod or anything else. Again, I think it’s the quiet, distraction free environment that helps,
