Forty-four books for children. Forty-four fun-to-read, fun-to-hear, and fun-to-look-at books for kids. Thank you, Dr. Seuss! When I discovered the author had written forty-four books, I began to wonder how many of the books I’ve read; so I went in search of a book list. That’s when things got interesting. What I learned is that Dr. Seuss wrote and illustrated 44 books that were published before his death in 1991. Dr. Seuss actually wrote more books! Some were illustrated by other people and a few books were published after his death.
I’m always curious what teachers are doing for Dr. Seuss’s birthday and National Read Across America Day (March 2). I’m hoping you’ll let me know how you’re “Seussing” the week! And while you’re at it, take a peek at the book list I found online. I can’t verify that it’s completely accurate; however, it gave me a sense of how many Dr. Seuss books I’ve missed out on! I’ve got some reading to do! How about you?
Have a great week!

the local librarian is coming tomorrow
We are having Read Me Week. First day is silly sock day, second is Grab Your Hat and Read with the Cat! (in the Hat that is!) (Wear a fun/crazy hat!!), third day dress-up like your favorite character in a book, fourth is pajama day, and fifth day, Read Me Day – wear a shirt that you can read! Also, on the fourth day, we have family reading night and we have lots of fun games to play involving reading. The fifth day is also Guest Reader Day – we have guests who come and read to the classes all day, i.e. local TV and Radio personalities, government officials, and more. It’s lots of fun and the students love it!
We are going to read “Green Eggs and Ham,” then we will cook and eat green eggs and ham. 🙂
Last year, in addition to doing a Wacky Wednesday and Green Eggs and Ham lunch, we read The Foot Book. We painted the bottoms of our feet, one at a time, different color for each child, and walked across a number of tag board pieces. Each child’s feet were washed and dried before the next could paint and walk. I printed the verse from the book on each poster so each family had a poster of their children’s friends’ feet to display at home. “Left foot. left foot. Right foot, right. Feet in the morning, feet at night. In the house and on the street, how many, many feet you meet.”
