What would our world be like without trees? I shudder to even imagine! There’s a good chance we might all be gasping for air! Trees provide us with enormous amounts of oxygen, they absorb carbon, they give us shade, they reduce noise pollution, and the list goes on and on. Why all the tree talk? Well, today is National Arbor Day, a day for celebrating the important role of trees in our lives. National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April; however, many states observe Arbor Day on dates based on the best tree-planting times for them. After all, that’s what Arbor Day is all about. Click here to find out when your state observes Arbor Day.
I recently ran across a poem by Ilan Shamir that I love, love, love. You can find the full-length poem here. This is a shortened version that I find to be very uplifting—and perfect for National Arbor Day. Enjoy!
