Ready to Hit the Road? Here’s the Prize You Need

Springtime means travel. Here’s a fun prize to share with your class: the Where on Earth? Atlas from DK and The Airport Book from Roaring Brook Press. Both are brand new!

How can you win? Submit a comment to this blog by 11:59 pm EDT on April 11, 2017, and let us know where your dream vacation would take you. One lucky teacher will be randomly selected to win these books.

Grab your passport; here are some fun—and free—travel-themed resources to share with your students.

Before you hit the road, you have to plan. That’s where ScribbleMaps.com comes in. At this site, you can create an interactive map—draw shapes, circle important areas, add text, etc. Study your own neighborhood or study the world. It’s all free.

This year National Parks are free on certain days—including the weekends of April 15–16 and 22–23, the National Park Service birthday on August 25, National Public Lands Day on September 30, and Veterans Day weekend on November 11–12. Learn more at nps.gov/planyourvisit/fee-free-parks.htm.

Looking for a trip your whole class can take, with no permission slips required? Try a Skype virtual field trip. Visit a research station in Antarctica, an alpaca ranch in Maryland, a farm in Kenya, a nature reserve in California, and many other locations. Join in at skypeintheclassroom.com.

Submit a comment to this blog post for a chance at this week’s prize!

See you in Barcelona,

Karen

  1. Children’s Atlas books are a HUGE hit in my class. Students love ‘decoding’ all of the map keys and challenging one another to locate specific places on maps using the compass rose!
    Keep up the great work!

  2. Spring is a time for traveling…my husband and myself are vacationing all over Europe in April. So much to say and and show my class on our return.

  3. I just moved in July form Vermont to Arizona. Over break a colleague and I went to see the Gran Canyon (it’s name does not do it justice). I need to show my ELL and struggling readers where in the world are they.

  4. I would love to go to Australia. Koala is my favorite animal, opals are beautiful, and the Opera House. So much fabulous things to see!

  5. I would love to go back to Ireland and visit some of the historical churches and castles. The kids at my center love looking at the pictures and books that I brought back. Scotland would be my second place to go.
