Here’s your question: What do tater tots, toothaches, pizza, umbrellas, valentines, presidents, sticky buns, pets, kindness, margaritas, dog biscuits, tortilla chips, chili, clam chowder, and polar bears have in common? Need a little more time to think?
Okay, here’s your answer. Each one has a special day that’s celebrated in February. I’m sorry to say that we missed National Tater Tot Day. Those tasty gems were celebrated on February 2. The good news is most of these celebrations have not yet occurred. (In case you want to mark your calendars, National Margarita Day is Friday, February 22!)
Of course in addition to its special days, February is also home to several month-long celebrations that include American Heart Month, Black History Month, and National Children’s Dental Health Month. This year Chinese New Year—a 23 day celebration—also occurs in February.
As a teacher, how do you rank the month of February when you compare it to the other months of the school year? Most schools are open for ten months, so let’s say the best month of the school year is 10 and the worst month of the school year is 1. What number do you give the month of February?
Curious as a squirrel…

4
8 – because I really love the themes we have in February.
9 is fine for Valentines!
4 it’s cold here
Definitely no more than a 3!
I’d say a 7 or 8 because of all the great themes we can focus on! Usually the 100th day of School which means we are more than half-way through the school year and 1 month closer to Spring Break!! We also had several snow/cold days off school so we could sleep in – yippee.
I rank it 7. I love the themes and activities, but I truly dislike the weather!
