I live down the road from an exit to a major highway, and whenever I drive that way I’m appalled at the amount of trash people have thrown out of their car windows. To me, throwing litter into a trash can is really just the bare minimum people can do to help the planet. Clearly, some people aren’t even doing that. And yet, litter is apparently less of a problem than it used to be. (Some statistics say that litter has been reduced by 61% since 1968!) Through education and awareness campaigns, litter is less of a problem than it used to be.
Here’s an activity that will help educate students in grades 4–5 about issues that affect the planet. Remember, Earth Day is April 22!
P.S. It’s tough to create a private area that also has teacher visibility. Check out this cozy classroom cube!
