In my opinion, no sweeter words were ever spoken. This week I’ve gathered resources to help you celebrate DEAR all month long.
Let us know which book you’d like to DEAR right now. Submit a comment to this blog by 11:59 pm EDT on May 1, 2017. One lucky teacher will be randomly selected to win a prize pack of new books. Ready, set, READ!
Drop Everything and Read isn’t just a day. It’s celebrated throughout April and all year long! DEAR is all about encouraging students and families to make reading a regular pastime. Visit dropeverythingandread.com for activities, reading lists, and more.
Kids who like hands-on learning will enjoy the new Be a Maker! series from Crabtree Publishing. The books have plenty of projects that use easy-to-find materials. You can win the set! Enter here.
There’s no better place to experience all things literacy than the annual International Literacy Association conference. This year it’s in Orlando in July. Early bird registration ends April 24. Learn more.
Always ready to read,
Karen |
PS: Here’s one more reading event to celebrate, Children’s Book Week is May 1-7. Get the scoop.
The Warden’s daughter is the one I am waiting to read. A teacher has it now.
I’m reading a series by Laurie Halse Anderson about the Revolutionary War so I’d like to read the whole series.
Ooooh, that sounds like a good one. I just read My Brother Sam Is Dead and now I’m sort of on a Revolutionary War kick….
I’d love an ARC of Kathy Reich’s newest book. I’m sad that her long running drama series ‘Bones’ based on her books is over.
Love Pete the Cat books with the kiddos and he has a new one coming out. For myself I am waiting for James Patterson 16th seduction to come out
Love Pete…. 🙂
I would love to D.E.A.R. Ree Drumond’s new book Little Ree!!! It is about a city girl going to the country.
I would love to D.E.A.R. Katherine Paterson’s Bridge to Terabithia. As far as I’m concerned it is a classic.
Definitely a classic!
I love to read my students Eric Carle books. We always read them once we have finished our language arts.
I’d love to read Ada Twist Scientist to my students. What a great way to get the class excited about science!
That is a wonderful book!!!
I am close to finishing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I am trying to squeeze in reading at home as much as possible. I would like to finish the series again by June. then in December I will start all over again. Oddly enough every time I read the books, I find something I did not notice the first umtime times I have read them.
My 8-year-old is about to finish the series for the first time. She is SO proud of herself–and I am proud of her too!
On my personal, grown-up DEAR list, I am currently reading through the Darkwater Saga trilogy. On my classroom DEAR list, any and all Steve Jenkins books!
The Harry Potter books, I have already read them, but know I will read them again.
Any of my Nicholas sparks books.
I love anything by John Grisham or Danielle Steele!
I have When Spring Comes by Kevin Henkes or Frog on a Log
In the classroom, anything by Leo Lionni is a must read in the Spring. The kids always love the stories, they have fantastic messages and even better illustrations.
I’ve always loved the books by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, like her newest one, The War That Saved My Life. Her first book, Ruthie’s Gift, was a joy to read and I’ve read everything of hers since then. Halfway To The Sky was also very good.
I couldn’t agree more, Cindy. I recently read The War That Saved My Life with my daughters. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author!
Little Ree is my pick too!
