I’M NOT SHOUTING…YOU’RE SHOUTING

THURSDAY, JUNE 28, IS INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY. THIS DAY HAS GREAT POTENTIAL TO BE SUPER FUN FOR YOUR STUDENTS. IF YOU TEACH UPPER ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS, ENCOURAGE THEM TO DO ALL OF THEIR WRITING AND TYPING WITH CAPS FOR THE DAY.

HERE ARE SOME INTERESTING KEYBOARD FACTS TO SHARE!

  • THE LETTER KEYS ARE ARE IN THEIR CURRENT ARRANGEMENT PARTLY DUE TO EARLY TELEGRAPH OPERATORS, WHO FOUND THIS LAYOUT TO BE MOST EFFICIENT.

  • THE SHOLES AND GLIDDEN TYPEWRITER, OFTEN REFERRED TO AS “THE FIRST TYPEWRITER,” WAS AVAILABLE IN 1874 AND ONLY HAD ONLY CAPITAL LETTERS. THE SECOND VERSION CAME OUT IN 1878 AND INCLUDED LOWERCASE LETTERS AS WELL.
  • THE CAPS LOCK KEY WAS FIRST INTRODUCED ON A 1973 COMPUTER CALLED THE XEROX ALTO.
