A robo-chef, a zoo in the lobby, pods that zoom you to your room—those are just a few of the features in the dreamed-up school in If I Built a School (Dial Books for Young Readers), by Chris Van Dusen.
If you’d like a chance to win my copy of the book, submit a comment to this blog to let us know one feature that your dream school would have. Comments are due by Thursday, October 17, to be included in the random drawing.
Don’t stop there, though. Students ages 5-8 are invited to enter the Penguin Kids’ Design Your Own School Contest. One winner will receive a classroom visit from author Chris Van Dusen and an illustration by Chris of the winning design. Get the details on the student contest here.
Speaking of authors and contests, Jan Brett has a new book coming out—and 200 teachers have a chance to win a copy of the book plus a tote. To enter, go to janbrett.com. Your challenge is to discover two mammals and one bird found in India that appear in the book. Plus check out the super-cool How to Draw a Tiger video featuring Jan. Click here.

I think my dream school would have a never-ending library. No matter how much you explore, there’s always more to see and read. Wow!

A wonderful dream school has an involved staff working together, pushing themselves and their students to be their very best. A school where children learn worthwhile things to make a strong start in life, and where children develop the desire to learn more. A school where children are served healthy unprocessed meals.
