That’s right, sometime today—I’m not sure of the exact minute—Autumn arrives. Yippee! Now, don’t get me wrong, I like summer just fine. However, by the time autumn is here I’m really ready for lower temperatures, fewer skeeters, and fall festivals!
How about you? Do you look forward to the fall season? What are your favorite fall activities for school time and on-your-own time?
Oh, and I have one more timely fact to share. Today is also the birthday of the ice cream cone. How cool is that? (Yes, that pun was on purpose. 🙂 ) Gosh, all of a sudden I feel quite compelled to celebrate September 22, 2010. I think I’ll treat myself to an ice cream cone, and I’ll make my ice cream selection fall-colored. Something brown will work. Well, I’ll be! That would be chocolate, wouldn’t it?
Happy fall!
Diane
Our calendar reads that the first day of Autumn is September 23Rd?
I LOVE fall too. After this hot summer I am enjopying the cooler temps. My favorte activities are acorn painting and painting leaves. After we go to the aple orchard we will be comparing apples to pumpkins.
One activity we are doing this year is with gourds. I have ben buying the strangest ones I can find and the kids have been coming up with all sorts of things that each one looks like. As we pass them each child offers what they look like. Strangest one I have found this year one that looks like a goose.
Good morning! Mary, I wanted to let you know that September 23rd is the first FULL day of fall. I noticed that my calendar says the same thing. Being the type of gal who looks for anything to celebrate, I jumped at the chance to celebrate the partial day! 🙂 Thanks for the clarification!
And Darlene, your fall activities both inside and outside the classroom sound awesome! Thanks for sharing.
I love Fall because their are so many fun things to do with the preschoolers. I love to wait until the trees have dropped lots of leaves. Then I take the preschoolers outside and I let them run, jump, and play in them. I take pictures to put in our school year book and to share with the parents. The Fall colors in the pictures are so beautiful and the children love to look at themselves in the pictures. I also bring leaves in and put them in the sand table with mini garden rakes. After a few days of that I have the children pick a few leaves out of the sand table and we glue them on a piece of construction paper. Then we make people by drawing arms and legs around the leaves. We take lots of nature walks during the year and each season we pick up objects such as nuts, leaves, twigs, weeds, etc. and we tape them to our seasonal chart. The children love to look at the changes of objects for each season. Fall is great for preschool activities.
Fall is definitely my favorite season. I wish I could travel north, see the beautiful leaves, and enjoy the cooler temps that I remember from my childhood. Maybe someday . . .
I love to read ‘The Ugly Pumpkin’ to my students, then put pumpkins & squash in my science center. The students always enjoy it.
unfortunately we don’t get to experience the change of seasons here in cyprus like i was used to in canada. even though it is one of my favourite seasons it is often hard to explain it properly.i do try to do as many autumn activities as i can even though the children don’t see them happening here until you all are almost into winter…oh well!still those beautiful colour changes are not part of the fall deal here!have to count on the art activities to make them as real as possible!
I just LOVE fall! I love the colors, the weather, the comfort foods that all taste so much better in the fall, and bringing out my pretty sweaters that have been stored away all spring and summer! I also enjoy the all the craft shows and a hot coffee on my porch in the afternoons.
I love the fall because there are so many things to do and teach young children about! We live in Northeastern Pennsylvania, so we get the prime leaf color changes! I love to disect pumpkins, apples, and gourds with the children at my center. We guess how many seeds are inside then count them to see how close we were.
There are so many things to do with pumpkins and apples and they are abundant this time of year!!
I love autumn and in my part of the country the seasons don’t have as a dramatic change as in other parts of the USA. What I do with my students is pick a “season” tree on our school campus and we watch that tree go through the seasons. We were noticing the other day that some of the leaves are changing color and starting to fall. We hope to get permission to make this tree with a sign that it is our season tree for the year.
I love autumn but on my side of the world we really don’t see much change so for me I color alot of leaves with different colors for the kids they love to see all the other colors it is so nice for them when i travel north and bring them all colors of leaves or ask my realatives to send them by mail they love to campare the colors that we have used it is so nice.
I love the Autumn! Our first trip of the school year is always to the pumpkin farm. Each year is just as memorable as the last. The new season offers so many opportunities to enrich the science curriculum. I look forward to creating an unforgettable Harvest Celebration for the kids next month!
