It’s April Fools’ Day, so on this wacky day, I salute teachers who have a fabulous, if slightly crazy, sense of humor. Mr. Lowrey, my fifth-grade teacher, is a perfect example of the quote to the left. Now that man was funny! I don’t necessarily remember exactly what he said or did to make me laugh (except for his habit of occasionally singing “The Simple Joys of Maidenhood” from the musical, Camelot). But I remember that he made me feel happy and light—like swinging on the playground on a sunny spring day.
Did you have a “Mr. Lowrey” in your school career? (Or perhaps you are a “Mr. Lowrey” in your classroom?) I hope so, because laughter is an INSTANT VACATION.
