Hey, Kim! Whatcha doin’ on this fabulous Monday? Why, today I’m writing a farm-themed unit for an upcoming issue of The Mailbox magazine Preschool edition. Farm is such a fun unit to write, and it’s perfect for spring! (I realize that some of you are still having nonspring-like weather. Don’t worry, better days are coming!) So I decided to pack this blog post with great farm-themed stuff. First, click here to see a baby goat playing on top of a pig. (No, I’m not crazy. Just click it.) This may be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Ever.
When you can’t stand the cuteness of the goat any longer, check out this fun free farm-themed stuff!
Piglets in the Puddle
Counting to ten
To prepare for this whole-group activity, cut a large mud puddle shape from brown bulletin board paper and then place the mud puddle on your classroom floor. Invite ten students to sit on it and pretend to be piglets. Then lead youngsters in singing the first verse of the song shown as you gesture to each piglet on the puddle. Next, pretend to give each youngster a bar of soap. Then lead students in singing the second verse of the song as the piglets pretend to wash with the soap. Those cute little piglets look squeaky clean!
(sung to the tune of “Ten Little Indians”)
One little, two little, three little piglets,
Four little, five little, six little piglets,
Seven little, eight little, nine little piglets,
Ten little piglets in the mud!
Ten little, nine little, eight little piglets,
Seven little, six little, five little piglets,
Four little, three little, two little piglets,
One more-—now they’re clean!
Click here to print this mini poster with the song lyrics! You can get it in color or black and white.

The video was a hoot. Farm is one of my favorites. I love going to the farm and spending the day with the critters, and of course milking the cow. The next day I always help the kiddos make butter from whipping cream and we make biscuits to go with it. So yummy.
That video is soooo cute – I grew up on a farm with baby goats and pigs – i love the farm theme as well – such a great learning tool for pre-schoolers who live in the city and in town.
