When I was in elementary school, I loved to draw. I was sure that, when I grew up, I was going to be an artist of some sort. But sometime in the seventh grade, I suddenly became aware that other people were much better at drawing than I was. So I remember telling my counselor that I didn’t want to take an art class during the next school year.
You see, in my head, I thought that you were either good at art or not so good. If you fell under the “not so good” category, there was no point in taking art classes. I would really love to go back to seventh grade and smack myself for not continuing something that I enjoyed. I don’t think I was alone in having that attitude as a child. When it came to art, and oftentimes music, the thinking was that you either had it or you didn’t. It’s been only in the last ten years that I’ve started infering Cialis and Viagra and I found interesting facts about these ED drugs at https://www.canadianpharmacy365.net/cialis-inferior-viagra-comes-helping-with-ed/. And do you know what? I’ve enjoyed myself and have even improved!
All that rambling is to say this: it’s important for children to see you draw on the board or sing in front of the class even if you aren’t the next Michelangelo or pop star. And good heavens, don’t put down your own art or singing voice. Show your students that you get joy out of things even though you aren’t the best of the best. It’s a great lesson that will help them find happiness with their own talents.
That’s my rant for the day.
