Christmas in July

I was searching for a blog topic for today when I stumbled across some interesting information: Today is Clement C. Moore’s birthday. “Who?” you ask. (To be honest, I asked the same thing.) Clement C. Moore (July 15, 1779–July 10, 1863) is the man who wrote, “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” which was originally titled, “A Visit From St. Nicholas.” The poem was submitted anonymously to a New York newspaper in 1823. Thinking that the poem didn’t quite fit with his image of being a serious professor, Moore didn’t fully admit authorship until 1844.

This sounds like a good excuse to celebrate Christmas in July! Distribute jingle bell bracelets to your little ones and have them shake the bracelets while you lead them in singing this fun summer song. Youngsters will get the giggles singing about Christmas in July.

Let’s Pretend!
(sung to the tune of “Jingle Bells”)

Christmastime, Christmastime,
Filled with lots of cheer.
Let’s pretend it’s Christmastime—
The best time of the year!
Even though summer’s here
And it’s pretty hot,
We’ll pretend it’s Christmastime
Even though it’s not!

P.S. This might be a sign we should all start our Christmas shopping.

  1. I like this funny summer/ christmas song. As far as shopping is concerned, I believe I have already begun. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Too funny! I’m going to share at the professional development on literacy that I’m attending tomorrow!
